This is my newly acquired soon to be carry gun. It's a highly customized FN alloy frame with a FM Detective slide. It's currently at MK3 Firearms here in Las Vegas getting some finishing touches. The slide is getting milled to match the frame, a set of VZ grips are getting fitted, and it's getting a new Cerakote treatment like a BHP Practical model. More photos when its completed. That looks like a great gun for carry... My Detective slides would not work on either of my alloy frame FN HPs.
Did you have to do any fitting?

Gunhand, nice detective, and yes, please post images after MK3 has worked on the slide. Especially want to see how they step down the side to match the lower portion of the front of the slide and frame. I have an Austin Behlet Compact, which is an FN cut down to detective size and I also had Bob Cogan at APW cut down an FN/Browning Hi Power as well. I hear really good things about MK3. I am now thinking about sending them an alloy I recently purchased. That looks like a great gun for carry... My Detective slides would not work on either of my alloy frame FN HPs. Did you have to do any fitting? V/r Chuck Chuck, I have several alloy Hi Powers and two complete FN Detectives and a Detective slide. I have an alloy I wanted to use the FN Detective slide on, but it would not fit, frame/rail tolerances were too tight (it would go on about halfway, and then tighten up and would not easily slide all the way onto the frame). Although, it was a good excuse to buy another LW to fit the slide. That Detective slide does fits on all of my other LWs.

Wife's been in and out of hospitals the last couple of weeks, and they forbid firearms. I've had to leave my 43X in the truck and only take my P32. That's not really a gun...is it? Oh, can't bring knives in either......yeah, right.

There are dimensional differences in the FM Detective slide vs the FNH slide. I can't tell you exactly what they are.
When I first wanted to use the Detective Slide on an Alloy Frame for carry, about 20% of the time the trigger would not reset without jiggling the trigger a bit. Not good for a carry gun. Mark, at BHSS, knew exactly what the problem was, so off it went to Indiana.
On return, it was 100% reliable with the FM Detective Slide, but now the original FNH slide would sometimes fire more than one round with one pull of the trigger. That slide is mothballed...
What Mark did was to shorten the trigger lever at the top, where it contacts the sear lever. If I wish to use the original FNH slide, all I need to do is swap the trigger lever. I don't ever bother to do this. I have other High Powers with full length slides.
One day, perhaps, I will send an FNH slide off to have it shortened. This operation would likely not use any of the FM or Arcus short slide spare parts. This is a problem. Re-contouring an FM Detective Slide and shortening the trigger lever is probably a better idea. Both would likely be expensive. I'm not in a hurry... perhaps a different and more perfect option will come along, one day.
Cheers,
Tim

A Ruger SR1911 alloy-frame Commander-sized .45 auto (sorry, guys). I have a new (to me) P-35. After being worked, it'll be my "go to" for when the aforementioned .45 auto is not the right pistol. I dare suspect I'll feel QUITE well-armed with either.

I'm feeling really retro this week, so I'm carrying a Colt's It is of course a stainless Commander 45. It is your basic out of the box configuration with just a couple of mods I like on 1911 type guns. The late Jim Clark's shop just east of Shreveport LA did some work for me. They did a full melt down treatment on the frame and slide. Also a trigger job to produce a 3.9lb pull with no creep and extremely smooth. It also got a high rise beaver tail from Cylinder and Slide along with a skeletonized hammer and light weight trigger as well. The flat main spring housing was replaced with an arched version. If I recall correctly the original sights were replaced with tritium sights and some Cocobolo grips to replace the very tacky (used in the southern sense) grips that came with the gun. It also got an enhanced thumb safety at the same time. Other than that is is a plain old stock out of the box Colt Commander. The gun carries very well... and is a pleasure to shoot... the only pistol that is competitive with it is my S&W Scandium frame Commander size pistol which also the only 1911 type I have found I will carry as it came from the box... With a bit of luck I'll be able to get to the range and burn some powder tomorrow... FWIW Chuck

Chuck, That Colt's Commander is what I would call the perfect carry 45. I love the changes that you made, and I, also, prefer the arched mainspring housing. It is hard to beat a Colt Commander in my way of thinking.

My Israeli Kareen P-35 has been doing EDC most recently, since I ran 300 rounds of different and "bound to misfeed" ammo through it without a hitch (I detected some new magazines that I'm not happy about). I checked, and the darned thing will feed an EMPTY case, right after firing a live round. My carry ammo is a hand load (I know, I know...), using a 147 gr PC'd FP, that develops 960 f/s from a shorter barrel, but is in the middle of the charge weight range for the propellant. After I put a shock buffer, heavier mainspring (trigger spring?) & recoil (slide?) spring in, I MAY look at upping the performance, but I'm PRETTY happy with what I have. MY "ultimate EDC" is an alloy-framed commander in .45 ACP, for which I am currently on the hunt. I DO PREFER .45 ACP for EDC, but I certainly do not feel "unarmed" with a hi-cap 9x19mm. And I LOVE the P-35 platform in almost ANY configuration. "Leather" is a low-ride OWB strong-hand holster (Kydex and Leather) made by Crossbreed in Missouri. Everything they've sold me has been superb. "Joe Bob" sez chem 'em out!

In addition to the 1911 alloy framed commander, you should also consider adding an alloy Hi Power frame together with an FM Detective slide to your wish list. Many consider it to be the ultimate Hi Power carry platform and configuration. Image of my 75C alloy frame, FM Detective slide with Garthwaite/Nighthawk trigger and hammer, and C&S safety.

Todd, when adding a slide from one gun to a frame from another, is the best practice to have it fitted by a gunsmith? I'm always a little uncertain about such things. Beautiful example you have there, by the way.
