This past Saturday I was viewing some custom Hi Power offerings on Gunbroker and spotted a nice Garthwaite custom HP. I have wanted a Garthwaite Hi Power for some time now, but just could not find one at a reasonable price. I found many of his full builds are now offered for over$3,500/ $4,000. The GB Garthwaite was built on a 2002 FNH USA (Columbia, SC) with the following enhancements: Heine Original 300/Slant Pro Garthwaite Front Sight with 10 Karat .080 Gold Bead Insert Texture (Stipple) Front Strap Texture (Stipple) Back Strap Install Frame extension (Beavertail) Garthwaite Custom Thumb Safety Complete Trigger Job using Garthwaite Tool Steel Commander undercut hammer, hard sear and Garthwaite straight trigger with frame and slide fitting Bar-Sto Match Barrel Spegel Presentation Grips Teflon Coat Radius, Debur In looking at the GB ad, it was Buy Now and I spotted the seller was somewhat local to me, about an +hour. I emailed him through GB asking if he would be interested in a private sale and meet at an FFL to make the transfer. Turns out he worked about half an hour from me. We scheduled a meet and made the transfer, he had no GB fees, and I saved on taxes and no shipping. A win/win for both of us. The only drawback, and it is a minor one, he was a lefty, so the Garthwaite custom safety is on the wrong side for me. The other side of the ambi has the OEM MKIII lever. Great trigger at just over 4#. All in all a good, fair deal, with some savings for both of us. Todd, you are a master. An archivist. A librarian. If I had your knowledge and understanding, I would have the context required to appreciate the nuances of our passion for the Browning Hi-Power. But I'm just a shlub who likes to shoot and have fun with this gun. So, you know, pricey Garthwaite blah blah blah . . really? I love you. You know that. Please don't hate me for being a dumb hillbilly Internet nobody.

Nice catch indeed...
You may find you like the right hand safety better than a left hand. I bought a pistol some years ago that had been set up for a right hand mounted safety (left hander.) I quickly discovered I liked it very well... I could easily actuate it with my right first finger... I also like the right mounted mag release better.

Please don't hate me for being a dumb hillbilly Internet nobody. No worries Mr C, we have been on these HP boards together for a long time and certainly have a mutual respect. That said, I dont disagree that I sort of went down an obsessive rabbit hole on my Hi Power collecting, to not only include the various pistol editions and customs, but also accessories and some advertising material. Was corresponding with Bob Reed the other day and mentioned that I have a hard time parting with any of my Hi Powers and related accessories and materials. I tell my wife I trade and barter, but in reality, I never do, never get rid of anything, always adding. The obsession continues. Perhaps I need professional help, a 12 step program? Like most addicts, it is OK with me. LOL This one might give Mr C heart palpitations . Spotted this on an auction platform, got it for $35. It is 90 inches wide, and I have no idea what I will do with it. But it said Browning and I had to have it.

Speaking of intense collections, check out this Youtube video of Browning collector Mark Hannah (current Pres of Browning Collectors Association). I think we have posted the video in the past, but it is worth watching again and seeing this amazing collection of Browning pistols and accessories. I corresponded with Mark about some Browning boxes, extremely helpful, and some of the images in Vanderlinden's book on FN pistols are credited to Mark Hannah. Mr C, not sure what I will do when I get to the end of my collecting period of HPs and related material. If I lose interest, start to sell and wonder why and how I accumulated so much. Or, perhaps slowly devolve into senility and not to remember or care. Final and maybe best scenario, wait till I'm gone and let my family sort things out as they shake their heads and say how obsessed I was. I do agree with you and Bob in needing a pulse and a passion, by staying active and involved in something, and why not Hi Powers? And, I dont golf

FN Herstal High Power - 2003 "Vigilante" model with factory installed SFS system. A real pleasure. The pistol is great looking with the factory blue and the installation of the SFS system at the factory adds a great capability. My heart is somehow just naturally warmed by the classic High Power with ring hammer. I love the lanyard ring as well, and would dearly love to get a"Capitan" with tangent sights someday - just because I think they are lovely. This "Vigilante" FN High Power is classic in itself and lovely in appearance and lovely in form and function. Here are the photos...

Since the last update was a few months ago and I'm new, I figured I throw mine out there. After wanting a HP for several decades, I ran across these two within one month of each other, ya just don't run across HP's. They were both around $1k. The T series is as nice in the flesh as the photos, around 97-98% finish. That's reflection in the photo, plus the rug, I got lucky. The newer 82 MkIII was HP's satin, black, baked finish, but I found it buffs out like laquer if polished?
