Probably about 8-12 months ago I was bidding on a nice 1946 Danish contract High Power. Unfortunately, the bidding went higher than I wanted to pay at the time. Well, as they say, good things happen to those who wait. Perhaps some of you saw it on Gunbroker, a decent, good for its age, but not great condition Danish contract High Power. Has all of the main contract characteristics, including the proper Haerens Vabenarsenal (HV) date and markings, the serrated front sight, lanyard ring and what appears to be original grips and magazine. From what I gather about 1,700 were made, and it was the first contract after WWII to be made completely from raw materials and not using older, existing parts. I won the auction for $1,059 which I consider pretty good for a crested High Power. I cant wait to get it. It was C&R, so that is a benefit. It should clean up rather well. A few images from the Gunbroker seller.

Congratulations, Todd, - you're gonna have a BHP Museum before it's over - and there is absolutely Nothing wrong with having a museum full of Hi-Powers!

Excellent find Todd and very cool!
My silly dream is a Belgian Congo marked High Power. Perhaps one day one shall appear .
Cheers, Tim

1 of 1700 sounds like a heck of a find. I'd like to see the "serrated front sight." Nicely done, Todd.

Nice!
I'd be real jealous if I wasn't under fire from the wife for my P.38 zero series that followed me home today. Film at 11

Thanks Tim. No silly dreams, only dream squashers! I think you are like me, looking for the more unique Hi/High Powers. Some of the crested HPs are really hard to find, and many times can get rather pricey. But, always fun looking and trying.

Very nice Hi Power! It’s impressive FN had new production up and running by 1946.m, while most of Europe was still in rubble.

Some years after we were married, my wife said that I had more firearms than when we were married.

Yes, the collection has grown, and now I have to focus on HP customs and the more esoteric FN offerings to satisfy my HP habit. Jim Hoag worked on one of my guns, and I went to his shop several times. When you get around to it, I'd love to see what you have by him.

Not to say I have not been looking, as he is at the top of my wish list. I have customs by many of the top HP smiths, including 2 by Austin Behlert, a Garthwaite, Yost, Novak, Williams/Actionworks, Nighthawk Custom, Terry Tussey, C&S and some other lesser known smiths. If you know of a Hoag HP that is availalbe, please let me know.

Todd, That is great, I think I might have had it on my watch list just to see what it brought. With what HP are bringing on GB that’s a heck of deal. I’m not really a collector and always called myself a shooter but I probably ruined some values by serrating some sights over the years. Thanks
