That is a handsome HP... I'll bet it could tell some interesting stories... V/r Chuck
I'm afraid; "story withheld for now " and "It had been physically damaged and the finish was "compromised" in an incident " will have to do for now Chuck .
Alright, a final...maybe not so cryptic, tidbit: That now cherished BHP was forced to participated in an escapade...on the wrong side, with the previous owner. Fortunately the previous owners efforts met with abject failure...though not for lack of trying , and the BHP hit the pavement hard...but not near as hard as the previous "owner" . As a result of the subsequent stretch in a sealed box in a vault...without first wiping off the "fluids" it was spattered with , portions of the finish were gone by the time the whole process concluded...and it was awarded "By Final Order". It then...following the facelift mentioned earlier, began it's new career in the service of Truth, Justice...and the American Way .....

That is quite a story... Must have been an unusual E.D. to use a HP rather than a blact plastic gun... of course it might have been all he could steal... Thanks for the story... V/r Chuck

A VERY special favorite BHP...story withheld for now , a '77 C&S...and me , custom. It's well used but semi-retired, and it's on it's 3rd. finish ...original blue +2 matte refinishes. It had been physically damaged and the finish was "compromised" in an incident , so I repaired the damage before throating/polishing it, beveling the magwell and adding the then new MkII thumb safety...then sent it off to C&S for their hammer, sear, trigger...a duty trigger job, Novak sights and a matte blue refinish. Then, after years of carry/use...and a lot of rounds, I re-upped the springs and had a local shop matte oxide it and added the Uncle Mike's/Spegel's, just a few years ago. It lives in the safe and only comes out occasionally for LEOSA quals ..... Knowing what blood will do to finishes, I bet there is quite a story there that you are withholding.

Chuck: The incident in question occurred several years before Gaston's first plastic fantastic ever saw the light of day my friend .....

Yep, such fluids ARE absolutely horrendous on blued and bare metal . Patient work with progressively finer grades of crocus cloth followed by a professional bead blast to matte works wonders...and, it was bead blasted a second time before the current finish you see there.
The physical damage was the trigger guard bent back toward the trigger when the pistol was suddenly dropped and hit the edge of a concrete stair...with a good deal of forward momentum .....

Ah... the good old days... Still, back then E.D.s were supposed to use a RIG 32 or maybe .25 made in Belgium... Remember the lyrics to "bad, bad Leroy Brown?" 'Baddest man' indeed... he never met Jelly Bryce... or Bill Jordan... or Charlie Askins (who would have shot Leroy just for the entertainment value...) I did enjoy hearing about the history of the gun none-the-less... hopefully one day you will be able to share the 'rest of the story.' One thing sure... it sure is a nice looking gun these days... Thanks... V/r Chuck That is quite a story... Must have been an unusual E.D. to use a HP rather than a blact plastic gun... of course it might have been all he could steal... Thanks for the story... Put this together with a slide I just received from Chuntaro. It was good to see him, he was nearby at a Trap shoot. I like the Heine RS, the FS is too darned thick for me (I shoot .090" to .100" thick/wide FS's), I installed a KKM barrel I had never fit to a gun. Put the upper on a "spare" frame I have. I'm hoping it shoots as well as I think it should.

Did you get a chance to invite chuntaro over here? I sent him a PM invitation to join over at Handgunsandammunition.com back on May 18th and he replied that he is busily retired right now but will probably be more active on the forums in the not too distant future. JayPee

Got to the range to "dial in" the new Frankenstein P-35. All of my BHP's end up being "carry guns", so I see what factory ammo they shoot best, frift rear sight if needed- and carry on. Below group is 5 rds. @ 25 yds from the bench. The top hole (circled) was from a prior group- I didn't have my blue tape with me. Load is 115 gr., standard pressure Gold Dot. I estimated group size at JUST over an inch. This will work. Having breakfast with Keith/Chuntaro Sat. I'll give him the groups regards.

This is my favorite shooter. 1985 MKII Israeli(IDF) surplus; cleaned up, new springs, mag-safety delete, and refinished. I've owned it for a few years now, and it's a 100% reliable, accurate shooter
