What's the Girsan's O/A length compared to the FM?

I have not been able to find any specs on the new Girsan PI model. The TFB post mentions a barrel length of 3.88 inches. I checked my FM Detective barrel, and it is just about the same. Mine measured on calipers at 3.886 inches. I would think the overall measurements of the FM Detective and the Girsan PI should be about the same. Both the EAA and the Girsan websites dont have the PI listed as of yet. It might be sometime before the model hits dealers.

Just a warning here.
Based on my experience, one should avoid dealing with EAA at all costs.
Their warranty is worthless and customer service seems to have the mission of turning customers off on the company.

Hmm. Now this looks interesting.
Thanks for sharing, Todd!

Disappointing to hear CXM's warning about EAA customer service. This appears to be a promising looking Detective variant.

If someone is able to snag one of these, I'll be interested to read about impressions and range report.

Fellow HPC member TNorris recently posted on another forum after snagging the new Girsan MC P35 PI. It got me motivated to start looking in earnest. I had reached out to EAA several weeks back asking when they would be hitting local gun shops. Was told 4-8 weeks, and it appears they were pretty close as they now seem to be becoming available. Just grabbed one off Guns.com, $574.99, plus fees, totaling $638.46. I will have another $30 for my FFL, so OTD should be $668.46. Not bad. Guns.com has a bunch of pissy fees, but shipping was only $7.99. The added processing fees are offset by the low shipping fee. Subtotal $574.99 Shipping $7.99 Package Protection $4.99 Tax $34.50 Firearm Processing $15.99 Total $638.46 I have never ordered from Guns.com before, so it will be interesting to see how the processing works out. I am a Detective junkie, owning two complete FM Detectives, one FM Detective slide on an FN alloy frame, two Austin Behlert chopped Hi Powers, and a Bob Cogan Custom chopped Hi Power. This will fit nicely, and I am looking to see if I have any luck with mixing and matching with a FN/Browning frame, to be rid of the "safety warning". I will post images when it arrives.

Just picked up my Girsan PI today. Got it from Kentucky Gun Co. for $472.99 including shipping. There was some type of “shipping insurance” for $5.91. I did not get hit up for sales tax or any other fees. Seemed like a great deal.
Inserted one of my NOS Browning “mouse trap” 13 round mags. These mags have some type of anti friction coating that helps to smooth out the trigger pull. I am using these mags in my BHP Practical, my full size Girsan MC35 and now this PI model. I love the way they drop free with that “mouse trap” system.
I do have a question about removing the recoil spring assembly during take down. So far I have not been able to twist it or lift it far enough from the barrel to remove it. I do not want to break or bend anything so I will have to play with it some more.
Really like the feel and looks of this gun and am looking forward to hitting the range with it.
There is nothing in the owners manual about any special field strip procedures for the PI model recoil spring system. I finally got mine out by using a brass punch in the assembly hole to push it forward and then work it out. I had to use the same tool to reassemble it. Sort of a PITA but doable.

I had trouble with removing the recoil spring assembly from my BHP40s and BHP357. The heavy recoil spring made it VERY difficult. The solution I found was to stick a punch through the round hole in the recoil spring guide. This gave me enough grip and gripping area to remove the assembly fairly easily. Putting it back together was simply a matter of reversing the process... I don't recall having to do this on my Argentine Detectives. FWIW Chuck Just picked up my Girsan PI today. The Girsan single flat recoil spring seems rather long, and stiff. Necessary for the short slide/barrel. On the guide rod they eliminated the full circle where it fits to the barrel lug, probably to facilitate even being able to remove/install the guide rod/spring assembly.
I had some luck removing and installing the assembly from the side and rotating it as needed. If your tool method works keep using it. Perhaps a tool and a side approach? For me, it is already more difficult that with the FM Detective dual spring arrangement. Both are different solutions to the same shorter slide/barrel problem. In the long run, I wonder which spring arrangement will last longer through use, or if they will be interchangeable...
Cheers,
Tim

I think Woff also makes a spring for the Detective that is a single spring... that might help too... FWIW Chuck I do have a question about removing the recoil spring assembly during take down. I just picked up my new MCP35 PI, all black, from Kentucky Gun Company for only $475 with free shipping. I figured out how to remove and replace the guide rod/recoil spring system with the help of a video posted by BH Springs (great company). After playing with it for about an hour and with the help of one of those NOS coated original Browning mouse trap magazines, really got it smooth (no need to remove the mag safety system which I would not do anyway). I started looking at both my MCP 35 two tone and this new all black MCP 35 PI and thinking that the grey frame from my full size model would look real good on the PI model. Tried them and they were like silk as well as the trigger pull. Checked them over very close and could see no difference in dimensions at all. So I thought, why not mix and match. I originally thought that the two tone MCP 35 was sort of a strange color combination anyway. Now that’s what I am talking about. The MCP35PI looks much better. Shown here along with a photo of one of those great “mouse trap” original mags. Shown here is a borrowed photo of a set of Hogue grips I just ordered that will be installed on my now all black MCP 35. They will look great on my now proper colored MCP 35. I have both of these guns smoothed out with a no grit trigger pull of about 5.5 pounds. The coated Browning mag really helps with this. The Browning mag is only 13 rounds so if I want to use the original MecGar 15 round mags that came with these guns, the pull is similar. A little grit as the safety mechanism slides over the front of the magazine but the break is also about 5.5 pounds. Love these Grisan guns. They are very close to my original BHP “Practical” but a lot more budget friendly. Trooper Joe
