You know the mousetrap magazines will damage the finish on the butt of your gun?

Just noticed a Girsan MC P35 PI for sale on Gunbroker www.gunbroker.com/item/991319869The posted picture shows a safety warning on slide, but I don't know if that's a stock photo or the actual gun being sold.

It does look like a stock photon, but unfortunately, the PI does come with safety warning marked on the frame. There really was no need to do this (perhaps to satisfy some bureaucratic anti gun regulator?), and it certainly distracts from the pistol. Image of my PI and the safety warning.

I do have a question about removing the recoil spring assembly during take down. So far I have not been able to twist it or lift it far enough from the barrel to remove it. I do not want to break or bend anything so I will have to play with it some more. There is nothing in the owners manual about any special field strip procedures for the PI model recoil spring system. I finally got mine out by using a brass punch in the assembly hole to push it forward and then work it out. I had to use the same tool to reassemble it. Sort of a PITA but doable. Trooper Joe
The Girsan single flat recoil spring seems rather long, and stiff. Necessary for the short slide/barrel. On the guide rod they eliminated the full circle where it fits to the barrel lug, probably to facilitate even being able to remove/install the guide rod/spring assembly.
I had some luck removing and installing the assembly from the side and rotating it as needed. If your tool method works keep using it. Perhaps a tool and a side approach? For me, it is already more difficult that with the FM Detective dual spring arrangement. Both are different solutions to the same shorter slide/barrel problem. In the long run, I wonder which spring arrangement will last longer through use, or if they will be interchangeable...
Cheers,
Tim
My FN Alloy/Girsan PI slide project has returned home. More on the whole thing later.
The Recoil Guide Rod and Recoil Spring from my FN Alloy/FM Detective fits quite well in the new hybrid pistol. It is even fairly easy to install and remove. My intuition says the FM Detective Guide Rod/Spring combo is superior to the Girsan PI parts. If they are equal, the FM parts are far easier to install.
I'm waiting on a new guide rod, spring and barrel. I may change the trigger return spring to lower the trigger pull just a bit... it's a hair over 5#s and I think I prefer to be in the 4-4.5 range. Other than that, my new pistol is ready to go. Hope to get to the range soon and give her a try.
Cheers,
Tim

Tim, looking forward to seeing your comments and review on the FN alloy frame matched to the Girsan MC P35 PI slide. Would also like to see images of the Detective spring and guide rod in it as well. Is this the one BHSS built for you? Range report would be great to see how it functions. I have been having a hard time getting to my local range (which I dont really like) but the only one that is close. I have several I HPs and clones I need to shoot including my stock (less mag safety) PI.

Good morning, Todd.
This is the one BHSS built for me. I, too, have had a hard time getting to the range and now have two more pistols to shoot for the first time.
Here's a couple quick pics of the Girsan PI hybrid vs the FM Detective hybrid. The first is each in their natural state. The second is with the BHSS Detective barrel and springs in the Girsan PI slide.
Installed this way, it seems to function perfectly with no rubbing anywhere. The FM guide rod/spring installs far easier then the Girsan PI parts. For that alone, I would say the FM arrangement is superior. I am waiting on parts from BHSS. New barrels and guide rods for the Detective are in stock or about to be. We expect those parts will drop in.
I will add a note on the weights later... The Alloy/PI is noticeably lighter than the Alloy/Detective.
Cheers,
Tim
