Looking to learn more about a hi power I recently picked up. It has an internal extractor and thumbprint cutout. The serial number is 02823 with E prefix. The Inspector code is M with a Star. Not quite sure how to interpret the rectangles and dots of the part date codes so I will list the numbers and let the pictures do the talking. The Date code on the root of the trigger guard is 0. The date code on the slide appears to be 1 and there are what appear to be 1 codes on the trigger and hammer. There is a 8 date code on the slide lock. The date code on the barrel looks like a C(incomplete 0?) or maybe an upside down 7(distorted 1?). On the slide there appears to be an F and some other markings I can't really make out. Finally on the heel of the frame there appear to be several capital R letters and an X stamped just behind the mag well. My best guess is 1950-51 based on the thumbprint cutout? You are correct in assuming your E prefix pistol is early fifties, much clouded supposition on who ordered the E pistols, British SAS, German police, Belgian Police, etc. no one really seems to know. If I remember correctly my E05303 was manufactured in 1952.

Thank you for the information and confirming my hunch!
I looked a little further into the E prefix and as you said it is quite clouded! I guess my next avenue of research is finding out more about the part codes and seeing what I can learn there.
Thank you again!
