Fjb, At some point the notch for the shoulder stock has been filled with a steel insert and filed smooth, probably silver soldered in place....could possibly have been welded shut also in either case I would not attempt to restore the notch short of having a professional do it. Someone obviously felt covering the notch would relieve them of Federal laws prohibiting a shoulder stock ( a whole issue by itself). I would enjoy the pistol as it is, collector value is low but sentimental value and shoot ability are high..

I've always wondered if that insert was removable or not... Apparently is not.... Based on your comments then there is even no point in procuring the stock as it would be useless as I intend not to modify its current state. I was really never concerned about the monetary value of it, It was my Dad's so the sentimental value is simply priceless. It does shot nice, and knowing a little more about it is always cool. Again thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
