Done quite a bit of research here the last few days and I'm only slightly less confused that when I started. I think this is the rounded slot in the barrell which apparently means it's a real early one, but it could be the squared one, not sure. I'll just get straight to the pictures since I'm sure that'll be the most helpful. I have a few more too if needed.

You have a WWII production High Power produced by FN during the German occupation.... The alpha character after the serial number is a dead give away, as is the absence of a pin in the trigger body to connect to the magazine interlock system (always unnecessary, and the Germans told FN to drop in during WWII.) The barrel carries FN proof marks, and may be a newer production. The barrel is not an example of a rounded locking pre WWII barrel. Here is a photo showing both versions of the barrel... lower one is the old version. Finally the gun has been re-blued at some point... you can see how the lettering is worn down from polishing. I hope I have been of some help... I expect others more knowledgeable than me will join in too... V/r Chuck

Thank you for the reply CXM. Very interesting to know a little about this one. I wish it also had the older style barrel too, but oh well. Any idea on the value of one like this?

FN changed the shape of the locking lug shortly after the pistol was introduced... and they did it for a reason... the rounded type was having problems with the lug cracking... the revised shape solved that problem... I have a couple with the old type lugs, but they don't get shot... if I want to shoot those guns a new style barrel is installed. Given the condition of the gun, I'd value it at around $400... though the value of WWII surplus weapons is growing pretty steadily. FWIW Chuck Thank you for the reply CXM. jaejr, Your Hi Power also has a S&W revolver rear sight and ramp front. Back in the day, I had a couple of commercial T-Series guns made up with those sights. That requires some skilled machine work to do properly. The modifications and refinish would take the gun out of the collector realm, unless done by a famous gunsmith or owned by a famous person, etc, but it should be a decent shooter.
