Hello, from Prosper, TX, about 35 miles north of Dallas. I'm a retired engineer and project manager, and consult just enough to support my vintage auto and firearm collections. And, I'm a volunteer member of our local PD's Citizens on Patrol.
Although I've mostly focused in the past on S&W revolvers, I recently turned my attention to 1911s, and just picked up my first FN High Power. More on that in a separate thread, as I have some questions. All of my pistols go to the range; no safe queens among them.
Glad to be here!
Doug

Hello, all. It's been a while since I've posted, and thought I'd reintroduce myself. I"m a BHP owner from many years back who decided to get back into things as a novice armorer/tinkerer....just prior to covid. I have always loved the HP, and have been so grateful to find this community. I am now the proud owner of 2 FN BHPs. Both Surplus purchases from Mach 1 on GB : a MK II - now refurbished at BHSS with bells and whistles ( I picked this up just before prices skyrocketed) I remember thinking that I was getting gouged at $650; but was anxious to begin my new hobby. and a MK I Israeli surplus - still original, not serviceable, and my winter project on which to learn more about the internal extractor as well as the workings and differences from the MK II's. I hope this post finds everyone well....Best, to all here.

A returning member after a 4 year hiatus to pursue other endeavors non-firearms related. Since the discontinuation of the Hi-Power in 2018, and attempts by other companies to resurrect it to which it didn't generate myself much interest due to issues, cost, availability I lost interest in them. Now Springfield Armory is back in the game with the new SA-35 which I wasn't aware of until last month which caught me by surprise. I've been watching/reading forums and hopefully SA can de-bug this new SA-35. And major kudos to Mr. Allen from BHSpringSolutions LLC for his youtube.com 8 series videos on testing and determining why all the reliability issues. Well done, Sir!
So I'll be in the background reading, listening, learning and possibly contributing in the near future with this knowledgeable array of Browning Hi-Power enthusiasts. Yes, I've drank the punch on other pistols starting in 2014, but the Hi-Power is still my favorite and most trusted sidearms (still)to this day.

Welcome back, Wags! It's good to see you're here again.
The FN-Browning High Power = Light Years ahead of all the other designs and, it always will be.

Hi, I'm Ron. I found this forum while seeking information about the 9 mm FN Herstal Hi-Power that has been in my family for over sixty years. My Dad purchased it in 1954, three years before I was born. He is approaching his 88th birthday.
A few days ago,I was at his home, along with four siblings, spouses, and adult children, celebrating what may be Dad's last Christmas. To my surprise, the gift bag my Dad handed me contained a softside case and his Hi-Power. This was an emotional moment, as I considered he was handing me not just a gun, but a talisman of his life. I have been selected to carry on the legacy and story of this finely crafted firearm.
I will post a link to photos in a few days, so forum members can assist me in finding out its date of manufacture and any other information that can be gleaned from its serial number and proofs.
Thanks, and a Happy New Year to all.

Check the various parts for proof and production marks, including some of the non-obvious places, such as the trigger guard, trigger, hammer, barrel (usually marked on the lug) on the firing pin block, bottom of the grip, backside of the slide stop. Some of these might have date marks/production marks, which will help date, other marks can be more mysterious. Look especially for small numbers with surrounding or partially surrounding lines. An example, an image of a 1952 production mark on the backside of the slide stop and a 1951, 3rd quarter trigger manufacture date, 1 with box with open bottom.

Hello there! I'm new to the forum, and made an account specifically to message beczl some research I have done over the past little while on FEG P9's. I don't know that the info I gave him will help at all, but, I figured that there is someone else out there looking for the same information I am, and doing it at such a high level, I might as well send the info his way! I'm excited to keep learning more about FEG Hi Powers, as well as interact with fellow collectors and figure this FEG puzzle out!

Hi there folks! I have had a devil of a time getting logged in so I want to say thanks.. I have an FN Herstal with a holster that matches serial numbers and has the internal extractor that I am going to sell (with regrets!) and I am unable to determine the year of manufacture, or the value. I posted photos here but cant find the account so am going to try again. Attachments:

Hello!
This one is particularly fun because I own #28915, probably produced alongside of yours!
Yours is a 1950 FN High Power.
The frame was stamped with a date code in the 4th quarter of 1950. Other parts may have been stamped earlier or later. It was inspected by Couchant Louis who was a Controller of Proof using the mark *M from 1923-1952.
Mine is in slightly better condition than yours, showing only minor surface rust which was easily cured. It came to me in a private transaction in late 2019. Info on previous ownership - it was owned by a tavern owner on the north side of Chicago. There "may" have been some underworld ties, but most likely it was kept at the bar for protection as needed. The previous owner must have had enormous hands - the pistol featured extremely thick aftermarket grips which were raised further from the frame by three set screws on each panel. The pistol came with one magazine which seems original and the trigger pin appeared to have been improperly re-installed after someone eliminated the mag disconnect.
High Powers were not directly imported for US sale until 1954. I imagine mine was a GI bring back after serving in post war Germany or in Korea. It is unlikely I will ever confirm this.
I paid $600 for mine. The seller wanted more and I wanted less. A nice compromise. After optimizing by BHSS, and the addition of SFS, she is a great shooter.
I have added three photos for you.
The first is a closeup of the date code. The date code in 1950 appears upside down on the left front of the trigger guard. In later years it seems to be right side up on the right front of the trigger guard. In 1950 it is [ 0. ], with the number surrounded by a partial box. On yours and mine the partial box is top and right sides, indicating the 4th quarter of the year. The Controller of Proof code [ *M ] is stacked on the right side of the slide and frame.
The other two pictures are the right and left sides as she appears after optimization, cleaning and the addition of new grips, SFS and whatever else I added. She can be fully restored to original configuration should I or some future keeper desire to do so. All original parts are archived for no particular reason.
Cheers,
Tim

At the moment I'm a bit hesitant to give price estimates... Why? Well with Springfield introducing what looks to be a quality HP clone, FN re-introducing a evolved High Power and Tias and Girsan both making HPs in Turkey I'm not sure where the market will be once the dust settles.
In the short run at least, I think the cumulative effect will be to reduce market values on classic FN made HPs. In the long run I also expect the classic HPs to recover and continue to appreciate in value... but how fast is anyone's guess.
One thing sure, unless I was buying an existing FN made HP for long term hold I will be very conservative what I pay for a used original HP>..
I also think it is going to be a GREAT time to be a HP collector!!!
FWIW

Hi everyone...I'm new to the board. My board name is just my initials. I live about 45 miles north of Atlanta straight up 400. I'm a systems administrator and manage system administrators. I'm sort of a Jack of all trades with hobbies and chores. I'm lucky enough to have land and my own pistol and rifle ranges. Pre computer systems life I was a member of the 82nd Airborne and crew chief on Cobra Attack helicopters with a speciality in fire control repair (the weapons systems). On the firearm side I'd say I'm a late bloomer and didn't have the disposable income to buy much while we raised 3 children. BUT....I'm trying to make up for that. I recently picked up one of my bucket list items and that was my 1974 C Hi Power. I have probably the regular stuff in the safe that most people have.....old and new....M1 Carbine, Garand, AR's, 1911's, P92's...etc. Attachments:
