So glad that Remington made you whole on your R51. Remington really needs some positive reports, from what I read on the forums. Now, knowing what you know about the R51, will/would you recommend it to friends and forum members?? Again, congrats on getting your R51 functioning correctly.

That’s great Howard!
Can you tell what got polished? I know the bolt/breech face lead in has been problematic with occasional CZ’s and the first Houlton made SW1911’s, both after moving to newer more cost effective production methods. Be interesting to see if similar “polishing” worked on the Remington. (I refer to it as “finishing the gun” over on the CZ forum...)

I need to shoot it more. So far (now that it's workint correctly) I really like the way it shoots; especially since the trigger is improving with use. Howard

Unfortunately, I have not had time to disassemble the R51 and look for any alterations (I barely had time to shoot the video!). I've got a rifle match tomorrow. With a little luck, I'll have some time after that to study the R51 a bit. Howard

Redemption is a beautiful thing. It's great news that the R51 is running well. Nice shooting on your part, too. 1) What distance were you firing at? 2) It appears from the video that your shot placement was better with the FMJ rounds, then opened up with the hollow points. Is that your take on it, or do you attribute the difference to the loads being hotter? 3) It took me a while to warm up to it, but now I rather like your idea of staging the videos as "I just got the gun. Let's see how it runs." It adds a little drama and draws the viewer in.

As usual, I was in a time crunch when I was filming this video, so I just hung the targets and set up the cameras at 20 feet from my firing point. In the other videos, I did quite a bit of shooting from 30 feet, so it was a little easier to keep the shots centered in this one. I think the shot placement was better at the beginning because I started out with standard pressure FMJ ammo. As I progressed into the hollow point ammo, I was using mostly +P, and a little +P+ ammo. I also was not really taking my time, I was just picking up the sights and pressing the trigger. I think that coupled with the greater recoil impulse resulted in some degradation of my accuracy (it also didn’t help when I burned the devil out of myself with that one errant casing!). I like this format too. It gives my viewers an idea of what they van expect the first time out if they purchase a certain firearm. Vicariously, all of you come along with me to try out a brand new rifle or pistol. I’ll have more info on the R51 coming soon! Howard
