Yesterday, I was able to overcome my profound and chronic laziness and make the 45 min. drive up to my favorite outdoor range. For the last several years, I've been setting my targets at 20-25 yards, which is fine, only I never hit anything. This made the ride home particularly unpleasant. In an effort to break this spectacular losing streak, I decided to move my targets closer. It turns out that, at around 5 yards, there's nothing wrong with my sights, nothing wrong with my ammo, and not too much wrong with my shooting. I was able to knock out the center of the target and, during rapid fire, regain my front sight and keep my shots within an acceptable (for me) 2.5 inches. I was encouraged. The ride home was much more satisfying. I think I'll continue to work on the fundamentals as I slowly move the targets farther out. As you can see, there's not much of a story here. I'm not a pistolero like so many here, just an enthusiast who is trying to improve. By the way, I was shooting 200 rounds of 115 gr. FMJ PMC Bronze through a Standard Hi-Power (three line slide). Zero failures. Cheers.

MC,
I found out some time ago that for me to only shoot my handguns @ 25 yards was instant depression. I only shoot free hand, unless I am testing new loads or sights, so no sand bags or bench rests. A combo of old eyes(I shoot at a poorly lit indoor range), old hands, and old man "wobbles", is not conducive to good results, free hand, @ 25yards. I have found that 25-35 feet works much better, especially for the ride home......sometimes a smile and pleased with results. I shoot for the fun of it, and only compete these days against myself. I feel that I shoot well enough to be able to defend myself and others, if called upon.
