Very interesting...
I wonder however if the mysterious L S mark doesn't mean "luftschutz' or air defense. The Luftwaffe was responsible for air defense and operated FLAK units pretty much like Army (Heer) artillery units (in fact the heavy AA units operated with the Army and their 8.8cm guns were widely feared by the allies.
Issuing a full size service pistol to Luftschutz units would make sense as opposed to the much less powerful FN 1922 or 1911 pistols in 7.65mm or 9mm kurtz.
Nothing I can prove here... but a thought.
FWIW
Chuck

By the way, it was for the kingdom of iraq (king faysal). Not the republic. The eagle belongs to the republic era

That is good to know... these Izzy HPs have always been something of a mystery. It has been assumed they were captured in one of the many wars that part of the world has had to suffer... I know there was one offered for sale 6-8 years ago that had been damaged by a bullet hit... I'll look forward to seeing what you find when you get to translate some of the markings... BTW, if memory serves me Maadi is Egyptian? Thanks Chuck By the way, it was for the kingdom of iraq (king faysal). Not the republic. The eagle belongs to the republic era

Any Arabic-marked weapons surplussed out of Israel would definitely have been captured by Israeli forces in Egypt/Sinai, West Bank, Jordan, Syria, or Lebanon. If from anyplace else, the IDF would have found weapons sent from Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc., and in the hands of Palestinians or other guerrilla/terrorist forces.

It's difficult to generalize in that part of the world... there have been so many 'border actions' 'little wars' 'conflicts' 'skirmishes' 'incursions' in addition to bigger squabbles lots of guns changed hands... and once in other hands they often were sold into the international arms markets, which happily sold to anyone willing to pay for the weapons... including the Izzys. None-the-less the great majority of such weapons must have been captured in various wars... 'only thrown down once.' Although the image of the Hi Power symbol was posted back in April, it was only a link. I took the liberty of downloading the image, editing it and linking to it. Interesting mark, looks a little amateurish to me. Looks like an S or a 5 within a triangle.
