I just now checked, and an O'Reilly Auto Parts store in my area carries this product. I will get a small bottle this weekend and give it a try. If I like it, then I will get a larger amount. Doc, just make sure it's the blue Extreme Duty Gun Oil, not the conventional red Lucas gun oil. They're very different. JP

What is the difference in the two? Thanks CHuck Doc, just make sure it's the blue Extreme Duty Gun Oil, not the conventional red Lucas gun oil. They're very different. JP As far as I recall, the blue Extreme Duty has the zinc alkyldithiophosphate like the synthetic motor oils. The conventional gun oil is more like the traditional mineral oil based gun oils.

From the previous page: "The Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil was designed as a high-temperature machine gun oil that doesn't start to smoke or deterorate in heavy heat applications. In the four years I have used it, it has proven to be an outstanding general purpose gun lubricant in all types of firearms. My friends and I conducted some pretty extensive user tests with it in hot weather and at -10 degrees in AR 15's and in auto pistols, and it performed well in all applications. Other friends used it to smooth up rough bolt action vintage military rifles and it worked very well there too. It was marketed for a while under the Spike's Tactical logo, but that doesn't look to be the case any more. It's a first rate lubricant that's worth it's price for sure."

Just stopped in at the O’Reilly by me and the Lucas Extreme Duty gun oil is what they had at the counter. Not too outrageously priced 😉

I made it to O'Reillys today, and sure enough, they had the correct Lucas Extreme Gun Oil. I picked up some, and will begin my evaluation. I try to keep an open mind on new products....some are good, others, not so much. Time, and range visits, will tell the story.

I use Ballistol for cleaning - the liquid, not the aerosol. (I avoid anything in an aerosol can, because in that big 'ol can you actually get about an inch of product with the rest of the can full of butane. "Hello! My name is Tom and I'm a cheapskate.") I also use Ballistol for lubricating anything that pivots, such as the trigger mechanism, and the sear, hammer, and safety.
However, for the slide and frame rails, and for the stripper rib under the slide, I use Brian Enos Slide Glide grease because it stays put and makes the slide run slick, and you buy it in a tiny little tub that easily fits in the pounch I carry my 9mm cleaning kit in. Hmmmm....I think when I use all of the Slide Glide up I'll go get some grease at the auto parts store and refill the little tub with that. "Hello! My name is.....Uhh, you know the rest".
My motto is "If it pivots oil it, and if it slides grease it".
Ultimately, though, I think gun owners get all wrapped up in the hype about the latest and greatest product. Pretty much ANYTHING will work, including motor oil, wheel bearing grease, even Crisco and olive oil in a pinch (and your hot gun will smell like french fries)!

I have started trying the Lucas Extreme Gun oil on a couple of .22cal auto pistols. I am a long time, satisfied, TW25b grease user, but felt as though maybe the oil would be better on these two .22cal handguns. It is not cold, or even chilly this time of year here, but the slides seemed a bit slow, even with CCI MiniMag ammo. So, I gave them a good cleaning and oiled up the slides and rails. Time will tell......I hope that I never get too old to learn!!

In earlier times I used RIG 7. It was an oil, but very thick, and would not run out. I wish it was still available! ( hello Birchwood Casey, can you hear me? )
Tried USGI LSA also. Still have some canisters of it. Think of it as a grease mixed with thinner oil. The oil will run out of slides.
Now I use Tetra Lubricant ( NOT triple action! )
Have tried nearly everthing, now Break Free CLP for most uses, except lubrication of semi auto´s slides and ARs.

I too use the blue Lucas oil that smells like the cleaning products used in public restrooms... A couple of years ago Brownell's had a sale on the bulk packages of this stuff and I bought a gallon of the stuff... should last a lifetime or two... Lucas makes a red stick type grease that works really well on guns... I have used it for over 10 years or so... FWIW, I prefer grease for most lubrication uses on my guns... particularly semi autos. SIG pistols for showing wear on their barrels and I have had to live with that for a long time... Since switching to the Luczs grease, that problem has largely gone away. FWIW Chuck

I work with a lot of industrial distributors, so they are always on the cutting edge of the latest and greatest in lubricants of all kind. They turned me onto LPS 1 Greaseless Firearm Lubricant & Cleaner, it is my go to now .......... I also agree with PeeJay the Lucas Oil product is awesome as well. Attachments:
