Chris, You may recall words between us concerning a certain birthday revolver and a thumb tac. Please accept this video as payment of my debt.

Hello Howard, What a excellent and fun video! I am not quite sure what contributed to the mis-fires, i.e. primer caps, but you recovered well! The accuracy of BP firearms is nothing to sneeze about! Glad you got the push pin in the end... Thank you for sharing it with us! Chris

Glad you got the push pin in the end... Thank you for sharing it with us! Chris You're welcome. I've made another video since this one, and I'm still trying to figure out the misfire issue. That aside, the 1858 is fast becoming one of my favorite revolvers. It is amazingly accurate, and it is a LOT of fun. Most of my other firearms require much more serious attention either as defensive instruments or competitive marksmanship implements. This one is just plain fun! Lots of smoke, a big bang, and an accurate shot to boot. As soon as I solve this misfire thing, there will be nothing not to like! Howard

Thanx for the video. I enjoyed watching you shoot your BP revolver.....it brought back a memory for me. About a "hundred years ago", I purchased 3 black powder replicas(cheap FIE guns) over a period of time. I also purchased the black powder, ball, caps, etc. I loaded up my Navy Colt, the necessary goodies, and off to give it a go. If memory serves, I had a couple of misfires or so during my time shooting it. I doubt that I hit much, but not sure, as it was long ago.
Then I went home, disassembled the gun, and cleaned it is hot soapy water.....dried it....and oiled it!! This whole concept of washing my handguns in hot soapy water was not one that appealed to me. I never shot the "Navy" again, or either of the other two BP revolvers. I still own them, but they are just to look at, and remember the ordeal. I sure am glad that I didn't/don't have to stake my life on using one, but it would be better than a stick or club, I guess.

Howard, the Italian nipples (both Pietta & Uberti) sometimes leave something to be desired, and there are several aftermarket choices that are better, like the Tresso nipples.

Swapping out the nipples will be one of my next steps. I still want to try the factory nipples with different caps before I do that. Thanks for the suggestion! Howard

Sice you seemed to enjoy that one (and since I want to tempt Chris a little more), I thought I'd go ahead and tack this one on here. This is my second video from last week. In it, I try everal viewer suggested remedies for my cap-jam/misfire issue. I also do a little more accuracy testing along the way. Enjoy!

Nice video. You are making progress on your misfires, and I feel confident you will get it corrected and have a reliable, fun shooting, BP revolver.
