If you believe the weather girl, we are now being told we might miss the full force of the latest storm... The weather forecasts now looks as if the current hurricane is turning a bit to the east and may head up the east coast... of course like most weather forecasts the warn you not to rely on the forecast... Wed is our usual grocery shopping day... so I dutifully went to our neighborhood Publix... to my surprise it was not especially crowded... certainly it was busier than a normal Wed. but by no means a mob... even the blue hair women were polite and smiling... that speaks worlds to how worried they are... I bought most of the usual stuff... plus an extra loaf of bread and box of milk plus some hamburger and such... about a normal weeks purchase... They thought it odd I was buying meat... Meat and frozen goods were in good stock... even bought some Blue Bell Ice Cream!! Bread and canned meat was in low stock... I did get my usual quantity of Wolf brand chili without beans... the swill Hormel calls chili was out of stock... so some people may get exposed to real chili involuntarily... The store was out of beer except for some the strange variants... maybe vegan beer? Wine was the same story but the local beer distributors were busily stocking the shelves from a semi trailer... wonder if that means beer merchants care more about the public than the water sellers? There was plenty of produce and vegetables. Funny thing was the vegan section was absolutely untouched... maybe vegans fast during storms to appease whatever force they worship If that is not the explanation someone could get the idea vegan stuff doesn't sell... There was no water to buy... they had a sign saying the store was expecting more deliveries but they didn't know when they would get the water. Gas prices are up, but not through the roof ... about fifty cents per gallon... The governor is advising tourists to go home... Anyway, hope our members on the coast are spared... y'all please take care of yourselves... V/r Chuck

Hello Chuck, That's good news for y'all and hopefully the storm will keep tracking Northeast and stay off of the Carolina coast. The storm is eerily following the same path as Hurricane Hugo made back in 1989 when came onshore not far where I lived in Pawleys Island, SC. I may decide to stock up on food for the dog, canned food for me, but that is "normal". In any event, I will be checking the NOAA and NHC forecasts over the next several days. Chris

Buying extra quantities of stuff you would buy and use anyway is not a bad idea... if the storm doesn't come you just use it up and no loss... I got a sort of grin at the store this morning seeing people moaning about the store being out of Spam, potted meat product (I shudder to think what that has in it) and Vienna sausages. I did buy an extra baguette... Hang in there V/r Chuck

Hello, Well, it appears that Floridians are really paying attention to this storm! www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2017/09/06/Florida-braces-for-Irmas-fury-planning-evacuations/8031504696993/?utm_source=sec&utm_campaign=sl&utm_medium=7Also, the Director of NOAA stated today that they are looking at a low pressure trough that is developing over the Great Lakes that could possibly steer this enormous storm out further off the coast from us. Personally, what ever happens from two days from now will determine Hurricane Irma's track. Upper atmosphere conditions will determine where this storm goes. As to stocking provisions, I simply don't need a whole lot living by myself here now with the dog.... If it makes it way, than well it isn't actually going to be the first time over the past 25 years I have lived here in North Myrtle Beach. Chris

Less than "full force" will be more than sufficient to cause tremendous damage in FL, GA & SC

Hello, Well a cold front coming from the NW might actually steer the hurricane out into the ocean. We'll see.... Chris

Hello Howard, Thank you for the kind thoughts! Keep your heads down everyone, and stay safe. Prayers and best wishes from Ohio. Howard I've dealt with every major hurricane that has blown through SC in the past almost 30 years. It's going to really not be nice for my LEO friends as they are getting called out on Sunday. However, this is a time that I tell y'all a great hurricane story! Back in 1989, hurricane Hugo struck our coast and roughly made landfall about 30 miles from where I lived in Pawleys Island. I was working as the GM of the Lands End Restaurant/Marina in Georgetown, SC. I spent a night of listening to tall pine trees exploding in the raging winds as the storm raged through the area. After the storm passed I drove down the restaurant and discovered that the marina was basically gone and the salt marsh flattened. In the grueling days a head, I open carried a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec 1911 that was used to dispense the snakes that would come under the restaurant and to protect the employees that came to assist with the clean up of the restaurant and property. I opened up two days after the storm when two of the Georgetown City Police officers showed up for the $4.99 lunch special buffet. (Yeah, I had to clear a lot of product out of the walk-in coolers and decided it was best just to essentially give it away for the price of labor to serve and prepare it!). When they came into the restaurant, I explained that I was armed. They smiled and said, "well keep it displayed and nobody is going to bother you". This way back before we had even any CWP laws here in the state. Now you know why I respect LEO's so much! I will never forget that conversation! However, the hurricane is tracking even further west! Its going to be really interesting over the next 72 hours! www.nhc.noaa.gov/Howard, again thank you for the kind thoughts! Best, Chris

You are quite welcome. Great story, by the way. It drives home a point that the mainstream media has ignored for years. Specifically, most law enforcement officers have no qualms with law abiding citizens carrying/using firearms for defensive purposes. Unfortunately, the rather outspoken minority who disapprove seem to get all the air time.

Hello, Well, the current NHC has the track directly over Florida and heading west. Chuck's coastline is now under a "Hurricane Watch". Prayers from all of us here in South Carolina. Howard, you are absolutely correct in your statement. That was almost 28 years ago and most LEO's used a lot of discretion in their judgement of folks... The two gentleman mentioned in my little tale were local LEO's and I became great friends with both of them... They were just super folks and in the months after Hugo, I rebuilt a shed in the backyard for one of them because I had construction skills... On the comment about the media, well as they say "good news doesn't sell". The Mainstream Media (MSM) will jump eagerly over a story about a LEO involved shooting, but the story about a Cop delivering a baby on the side of a highway becomes "back page" news.... In any event, I don't want to get too far off topic. However, I will be praying for Chuck and Family as the storm approaches. Chris

Enough already!!!
I am tired of this dumb storm that can't decide where to go... This has gone on WAY longer than it should have...
I'm sitting here dead in the path of the storm with nothing more than very light rain and almost no wind at all!!! The storm was supposed to get here on (in order) Sat. early a.m., Sat morning, Sat afternoon, early Sunday a.m., Sunday morning, then Sun afternoon, followed by Sun night and now Mon a.m.!!!
We can deal with the storm... but these so called 'forecasters' who know nothing (did you know there are NO... as i zero qualifications to be a TV meteorologist??? (The name it's self is misleading... sounds like they should study meteors!!!)
Anyway, nothing for it but to wait... which is really a pain... BAH!
Hope everyone is taking precautions and will stay safe...
V/r
Chuck

Hello Chuck, I know your pain about waiting for the arrival of the storm. Been there, done that! The MSM has been drumming on this subject and they can't seem to get their stories straight! Here's the latest official track from the pro's at the National Hurricane Center. (Remember they are the guys that gather data from the "hurricane hunters" and not some imbecile watching the local weather radar). www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/093910.shtml?gm_track#contentsThe best news story I read this morning was one about volunteers in GA. grilling free food for evacuees from Florida just off the interstate. That is true Southern Hospitality! Another story about 16,000 public utility folks staged at Daytona Speedway from a bunch of different states ready to assist in restoring power! You have to dig deep to find good news anymore. However, that's why I ended my cable television service a couple of years ago. Hang in there Chuck! I am sorry to hear about your situation, but folks are indeed thinking about you! (and Mrs CXM and Sherlock, the wonderdog)! Chris
