The owner of my LGS called this morning to tell me I should stop by... SOOOooo... I took some time off at lunch to visit our LGS. The owner is a very nice guy... and is good about letting me know when something interesting shows up... which he did today... still when I walked in I could not help but note he had a sort of 'vulture looking at road kill' look on his face... Anyway, he pulled out a rather nice looking FEG HP... which turned out to be a FEG HP40... something I was not expecting... At first glance the Hungarian was not very attractive... homely black plastic grips don't add much to the appearance... but a short 'root' through the HP Parts cabinet solved that problem in the form of some Hogue grips... A quick application of the Hogue grips improved the look of the guns nicely blued finish considerably. On top of that, the pistol also had a second 9mm slide included in the deal... this is certainly a 'sweetner' to the deal. The extra 9mm slide/barrel certainly added some value to the deal. After some negotiations, we struck a deal we both could live with and I took home a FEG40 in very nice shape indeed. This one does have something new to me... that is it has the serial number on both slides behind the serrations near the rear of the slide... I've never seen that before. At the end of the serial number is a slash ( / ) followed by a lower case "a" something else I have never seen... Apparently, this gun was fitted with the second slide at the factory and thus the /a following the serial number of the second slide. I don't recall having ever heard of factory fitted FEG HPs sold with a second slide... So, I brought the gun home to discover the importer ia/was only a few miles away in Plant City FL. Anyway, hope y'all enjoy the catch of the day... V/r Chuck

Great score, Chuck. Wow, the extra 9mm setup really makes it an excellent deal. Burgs has one he dolled up a bit and it is a fine, fine looking pistol. I think he has posted some photos of it over at the other place.

Thanks for the kind comments... I was weak I suppose... no will power at all when it comes to unusual guns... Even with Mrs. CXM watching... (I was fortunate actually, she was being distracted by the nickle S&W M19 she was buying... Oh... that and the $300 price tag... V/r Chuck That is one deal that I would have had a hard time walking away from. You did yourself proud on that transaction!!

Howdy Chuck, Full disclosure, this thread is what got me off my butt to join your forum. VERY nice FEG 40 you have! As you know they are hard to find and for years I never knew that they even existed. In my opinion, I think the way FEG modified the Hi Power to handle the .40 S&W cartridge is genius. Adopting the S&W barrel/frame lockup system allowed FEG do avoid the whole cast frame and thick slide modifications that FN chose to take. Not that the cast frame and thicker slide for the .40 S&W are a bad thing, but going to the S&W barrel/frame lockup allowed FEG to make a .40 S&W Hi Power that weights the same as a my Browning 69C - so what FEG devised was effectively a lightweight HP 40. I shoot and carry mine quite a bit. The S&W barrel/frame lockup was used by S&W in their compact .40 S&W pistols, so it should be plenty strong in a Hi Power. Most all BHP accessories can be made to work on your FEG 40, with (as always) some fitting. Attachments:

Thanks for the kind words gents... I am more and more thinking this was a really good catch... especially at the price.
Burgs you seem sure the S&W system will hold up to .40SAW in the FEG... I'm really glad to hear that... I have not yet shot 40SAW in it, but probably will Thursday or Fri. I load 165gr bullets for general shooting in .40 which should batter less than the heavier bullets.
I'm still envious of your Latvian HP40... I sure whish I had bought one when they were on the market...
FWIW

Chuck

Howdy Chuck, According to a Lithuanian military weapons webmaster, mine was made for the Lithuanian Police, but wasn't taken up. The issue wasn't with the FEG pistols, but for whatever reason the contract fell through. I've got over 2500 rounds through mine with NO issues whatsoever. I stopped when I began to wonder where all my .40 S&W ammo went. Here's a photo of it (fingers crossed!) with the new RAASCO checkered walnut grips...

Chuck, I was thinking about your FEG HP 40 again and it reminded me of a question that I meant to ask you. I'm the 3rd owner of mine, and it came with a bunch of FN Mousetrap mags. Do you know who made the mags for your example? I'm supposing that FEG just used FN or MecGar branded mags for their version, since they're so readily available, but who knows. The photo above is what mine looked like when I bought it.

Great find CXM!! What a combo?!! And what Burgs said is what i have always thought. That FEG produced a lightweight 40 HP. Very cool.

The mags 'look' like Mec-Gar... but FEG's mags in 9x19 were very close to the Mec-Gar or FN mags so I assume FEG was able to make quality mags in house. I don't recall anything that would lead me to thing the mags were not FEG... but I'll look again and post any differences I find. V/r Chuck Great find CXM!! What a combo?!!
