The Browning rugs show up on various auction sites fairly often... but they have gotten rather pricey... I'd suggest watching e-bay and gunbroker... sometimes one will go for a reasonable price... FWIW Chuck View AttachmentView AttachmentI picked up a real nice 73C series in March & it has the original grips as well as a set of Craig Spegel's grips. The gun is in such nice condition I've only put a few rounds through it & would like to find an original red rug zipper case without it costing me a kidney.

Hi all, Several years back I picked up some Hogues for a Ruger and was pretty disappointed, and had been hesitant to buy from them again. But thanks to info from you all, I made the (relatively cheap) gamble and picked up a pair. Well, they showed up pretty dry and chalky, the carnauba more crumbled on than rubbed on, and pink dust rubbing off on my hands. Ok, here we go again I thought. I did like the shape, so I held onto them, stripped the wax and soaked them in mineral spirits to get the pink out. Then treated them to a light tung oil finish. They sure are not the prettiest stocks I've seen, but much better than I expected when I opened the package. And yes, I love the shape, size, and feel so they are definitely keepers... Thanks everyone for your posts, this HP would still be wearing its original stocks otherwise...

You have some really nice looking grips there... good catch. I'm surprised at the condition of the Hogue grips you got... All of them I have bought have been in new condition and looked great and were well finished... Did you perhaps buy the grips second hand? I have bought quite few Hogues for the HP as well as the 1911 and have always been very pleased... Here are some pix of a set of Hogues I bought a year or so ago... nothing done to them other than screwing them to the gun... Right View- Lower gun has Hogues (obviously!) And Left View... Anyway, I'm pleased top hear you like yours... I really like mine... I particularly like their smooth version of their grips.... V/r Chuck

The Spegel designed Uncle Mike's are not the prettiest, but they work the best for me.

I have bought quite few Hogues for the HP as well as the 1911 and have always been very pleased... Not second hand, but on sale. The wood was great, you could tell they've never been on a gun. My guess is that they found them in some box in some back room somewhere after sitting around for a while. And I knew that model came waxed, not lacquered like the full checkered ones. Just caught me a little by surprise when I opened the box. With very little tlc, they did clean up nicely! Ps. The smooth rosewoods I got for an old Ruger were very nicely waxed, rubbed in and buffed well. They just needed quite a bit of inletting to fit.

Rascal, Rasco.com, makes some very good looking grips for the HP.

Usually Pachmayrs is my EDC but occasionally I put the factory wood on. I have a set of stag from Eagle that is really large.

I put VZ grips in my 72C series High Power not on my gun right now but here is a picture of the grips from the VZ web site. They are carbon fiber and quite thin.

Hey all, here is a set from the form meets function category: I was going through a lot of grip options looking for a set that would work well both strong hand and weak hand, one and two hand holds, and carry well. I liked a lot of the wood grips for feel and look, but they were not holding up for long days at our dusty outdoor range. I got these Pachmayr G10’s on sale, I think because of the color, but they were about $25 shipped. Not pretty, there are some spots I want to sand down, but they fit well, don’t move around, and feel great. Definitely easier to transition with than the factory stocks, but hold up better so far than any of the wood ones I’ve tried. Anyway, if you are not worried about looks, these are the best cheap option I’ve tried so far and they feel great with the grip tape on front and back straps.

Very nice!
I’m torn on VZ’s. I really like them on my Berettas, but had bad luck with them on my CZ’s. Not sure I’m ready to roll the dice with the price tag for their HP grips.
