Here's my video review of the Remington 870. I actually made this one a few years ago. It never got much in the way of views, but I always thought it was one of my better early videos. If nothing else, the shotguns are cool! Let me know what your take is on the 870 after you watch it! youtu.be/CEU7d0N2jtUHoward

That is a really nice video... I"m very fond of the 870s... about 10 years ago in Texas at the end of the bird season you could buy beater grade 870s for about $60-75... the finish would have to be described as 'suspected' on most of them but that didn't really matter... nor did it matter if they were mechanically worn a bit... About that time Wilson bought Scattergun Technologies... and started offering a "Remington Steal" package to refurbish Remington 870s. For $169 Wilson would shorten the barrel of your old 870 to 18" (or something else if you preferred) replace any internals that were not up to spec, install new magazine spring and hi vis follower and a new larger manual safety. The gun was then parkerized. When I had mine done I added a tritium night ghost ring site and magazine extension at extra expense. Basically this left me with their "Border Patrol" model 870. The really nice part was the four I had done were all built on frames made in 1951-53, two being police trade in's. These guns were about as smooth as it gets and can be operated as fast as lightening... they ARE slick!!!! This is #3 when she got back from Wilson... Another view Fast, accurate, powerful and reliable... hard to beat the combination... machine gun lovers can keep their subbies... I'll take a 870 12 Ga. every time for home or personal defense... A guy (now deceased sadly) once told me he had some yutes break into his house... one had a gun... he said the look on their face was priceless when he presented the 870... he didn't think eyes could get so big... He retired as a Lieutenant in the State Highway Patrol... and was a very good man. FWIW V/r Here's my video review of the Remington 870. I actually made this one a few years ago. Cool! I remember when Wilson/Scattergun Tech. started offering that package. It seems to me I read an article about it in Police magazine at the time. I can confirm your friend's account of people's reaction to looking down the barrel of a shotgun, by the way. Having pointed shotguns at several ne'er-do-wells over the years, I can say with some authority that I've never had to repeat myself after issuing a command from behind a scattergun. People will sometimes run their mouths when you have a pistol on them, but I've never experienced that when using a shotgun!
The 870 I'm using in the video is an old cruiser gun. If I remember correctly, it was manufactured in the mid-1960s. Several years ago, when my department traded it on new semi-auto shotguns, I bought it back for something like $125. Being an 870 armorer, I basically did the same thing to it as Wilson (i.e. replaced any worn parts). I didn't have to shorten the barrel, and the light mount had been added years earlier. I dressed it up with some duracoat just for fun, and it runs as well today as the day it shipped from Ilion! I'm a lifelong fan of the 870!
