Wow. Here I thought the 10mm was sitting on the sidelines drawing dust like my favorite 357 Sig. Wish Ruger luck on this new endeavor.

No, there's seems to be a bit of a resurgence the last few years. Quite a few companies scrambling to catch up. The Glock flavours are popular here in this end of Montana. I joined the club a few years ago when I decided I needed a better bear wrench, than my HP stuffed with 200 gr WFN bullets. Except I didn't go tupperware

Nice 1911 10mm Jager. I didn't realize how popular the 10mm was on the west coast in bear country. Makes since. Just little black bears (scarce) in my area. I remember like yesterday when the craze for the 10mm was the S&W 1006 that the FBI had adopted. Amazing.....

Quite a few 10mms coming out now. Sig, Kimber, etc. Fair number of long slides showing up as well. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about if you aren't in bear country or into handgun hunting - you sure don't need one for self defense.

Quite a few 10mms coming out now. Sig, Kimber, etc. Fair number of long slides showing up as well. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about if you aren't in bear country or into handgun hunting - you sure don't need one for self defense. I believe any fan of the .45 auto has room in their wardrobe for a 10mm. The load pioneered by FTU Director Hall of the FBI at Quantico was a dead ringer for the on paper ballistics of 185 grain .45 auto standard velocity. There were no 185 grain 10mm bullets available so they used the 180 grain. Using the standard 16 pound recoil spring for the GM length 1911 in .45 with FBI equivalent 10mm loads in a 10mm GM length 1911 produces a mild felt recoil impulse when compared to other greater than .36 caliber semi-auto factory ammunition. The FBI 10mm equivalent .40 S & W loads seem hot in comparison even though producing a nearly exact same velocity level with a 180 grain projectile. While by no means a bear worthy loading at 950 fps, it does have some merit for plinking or practice for those adverse to the recoil impulse of 230 grain ball in .45 auto or 180 grain .40 S & W factory fodder. The FBI equivalent loading is no longer available in a JHP. It is only offered in FMJ, unfortunately. However, the good news is Hornady offers 10mm 180 grain JHP in their Critical Defense and Critical Duty lines.
