Just wondering.... would an external extractor slide (L9A1) work properly on what would have been a 1955-7 frame with an internal extractor? Can you just swap slides without any further modifications to the gun? I did ask the guy if it functions properly, he said yes....but I've kinda lost faith in his veracity.
I don't recall the details right now but, there are tales of older frames that were stashed away at FN and did not get used until the newer external extractor slides came out. It is entirely possible your pistol was built as it is, and no parts were swapped out for newer or older parts.
When swapping slides, for the most part you can. There may be some small adjustments and minor fitting required.
Cheers, Tim

The newer slide should work with the earlier frame. I looked into option of returning the gun but as it was a private sale I have no legal basis. Seller said he had no idea of the mismatch and refunded $100 as an apology. If I had of sent it back I would have still lost permit and dealer costs and additional post cost on top. So fingers crossed no more nasty surprises.

Interesting...but regarding this little black duck...I don't believe it is an Aussie L9A1 as stamped on the slide. The grips are not correct, there is no lanyard loop, and no matching NATO stamp on the frame. Way too many factors..... Now if this is a one in a thousand exception.... then I'll stand corrected...with a big smile. cheers Francis
