Gentlemen, Long time, no posts, so here goes... I recently purchased my second BHP, 2016 model (ZT) Mk 3 in 9mm. In addition to several up-grades, I'm considering having a small picatinny rail installed forward of the trigger guard for mounting a Surefire X-Series light/laser combination like I'm used to on my work-issued and personal Glocks. Glocks never fit me very well, but I had no choice in what I could carry on or off-duty until I retired. Aesthetically, the thought of this makes me vomit in my mouth a little, but the BHP/1911 are my preferred pistol platforms. So, my question for the team is whether the Surefire DG-18 Grip Switch (that's specifically designed for a standard 1911 with rails) would work on a HP? I think in theory it might fit since the frame designs are similar, but I figure I'm not the first to ponder this question. I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks! Frank

You might wish to check with BH Spring Solutions. They sell an HP Hi Power add on picatinny rail, link is bhspringsolutions.com/index.php/product/picatinny-rail-by-rdih/You might wish to contact BHSS and see what lights and light/laser combination might fit. If I recall, another forum had a discussion on the new Girsan Ops, which has a built in rail. I believe there were some issues with some lights fitting properly as well gaining access to controls.

Thanks Todd! I had seen those when BHSS was working on my .40 FN-HP, but I really didn't care for having to drill into the sides of the receiver. The more I've thought about it, I'm now reconsidering. It'd just ruin those classic lines. It'll give me all the excuse I need to get a .45 Colt Rail Gun once all the holiday gun buying is over!!

I agree on ruining the classic lines of the HP, and also on drilling. That said, if you are set on an HP style carry pistol have you thought of the Girsan Ops with the built in rail. Not outrageously expensive, and most reviews have been positive as to its reliability. Only issue it might have as related to your carry needs is to make sure the light/laser will fit with functioning controls. Although with the extended beavertail, nice for firm grip and no hammer bite, but on a belt along with the light/laser it might be digging into you a bit and bulky. Probably not a comfortable carry, and in my opinion, there are better options.

That's a good-looking pistol! I know nothing about them, but I'll do some reading. Thanks for your help as usual and have a good Christmas!
