I replaced the safety on my FEG-P9/Counterfeit FN Hi Power simply because the original small-button safety had such a "mushy" detent. It actually would spontaneously switch itself from SAFE to FIRE while carrying it. I used the later safety from a MKII or MKIII Hi Power as I read that they had a better detent and spring arrangement. Here is a picture of the original safety: Here is a picture of the end result: At the same time I converted the MKIII safety to a single-sided safety lever by cutting the original pivot pin down to just inside the tapered hole for the right-side lever attachment, then rounding off the cut end with the "gunplumber's friend" (a Dremel tool) and cold-bluing it.
Note that you SHOULD be able to use any FN safety, but will likely need to do a little bit of minor fitting. On both FN and FEG P9 pistols the hole in the frame on the left side is large so as to allow the "camming" surfaces on the safety to pass through, and there is a corresponding boss on the left side of the safety just inside the lever plate. (The frame hole on the right side is just large enough to accept the pivot pin.) The left side frame hole on the FEG is slightly smaller. DON'T SCREW AROUND WITH THE FRAME HOLE! The rule in fitting parts is to only modify the cheaper part to fit, so if you screw it up you only need to purchase the new cheaper part. What I did was trial fit the safety in the stripped frame, then removed it and clamped it a vise padded with cardboard. Then I took a thin strip of emery paper about 1/8" or 3/16" wide, and carefully "shoeshined" the boss down by making about 5 or six strokes, turning the safety 180-degrees, then doing the "shoeshine" thing again. Try fitting it again, and if it still won't go, then repeat. Once it fits in the frame then you are pretty much done. If you have to fit the cam that interfaces with the sear there are other sources on the internet for that.

tpelle, nice job in fitting the altered FN ambi safety lever to your FEG Counterfeit FN High Power. You have done some nice work. Did you parkerize the blued finish? Also, thanks for reminding us of the FEG smaller right side frame hole for the safety. I recall Jaypee discussing it, but always good to get a refresh and to assist newer members.

No, I didn't parkerize the blued finish. There is some Israeli Defense Forces armorer who can claim credit for that. :-)
