Hello all,
This is my first post on this forum, so apologies if I have breached board etiquette by putting this post in the wrong place or not making an introduction post first.
I have recently acquired an early FN Hi-Power. It is an "A" prefix gun, which I believe means that it was made very soon after the FN factory was liberated and still retains some German characteristics like the lack of a magazine safety. This gun was part of a batch that went to Israel and it has been used hard over the years. Mechanically it looks pretty solid, and it is rust free, but there is very significant finish wear. Doesn't bother me too much, it just means I don't have to feel bad about actually shooting it.
Given that the gun is pretty old and was used hard by the Israelis, I wanted to refresh the springs and thoroughly clean everything before shooting it much. While stripping the slide I ran into an issue where I cannot remove the internal extractor. It comes out about 1/2" and then just stops dead. No amount of rotating, shaking, or pulling will make it budge, it just stops firmly after coming out a little bit. I do not want to force the extractor and possibly break it, because it looks like new ones are tough to find, but I would like to remove it to clean 80 years of grime out of the hole it resides in.
Has anyone ever run into this before? Any advice for how to remove it short of breaking it?
Thanks for reading everyone, hoping someone can help!

Just a quick follow-up to this, I was able to get the extractor out tonight. I soaked it from both ends with Ballistol and let it sit overnight. I flushed it out with Ballistol again and then tried to pull the extractor out. It was still stuck, but felt a bit looser, so I used a small pair of needle nose pliers as a lever to apply some upward pressure to the extractor. With a small amount of force the extractor started to move and then it came out just as it should. It seems to have been held up by the barrel formed into the extractor right before the flat part that leads up to the claw. After cleaning out the channel it went back in a bit easier, but it was still kind of tight, so I'm guessing this one was just kind of tight from the factory.
Hope this can help someone in the future!
