I bought some of the KRD magazines in the mid 1990s during the Hillary ban period. Mine came from CDNN in Texas. Judging from the packaging yours also came from CDNN. At the time I bought mine you had a choice of the 15 round version or the 17 round version. I don't recall seeing the kits, but obviously they did offer them...
Mine worked ok, but after a few years use they cracked at the top rear center at the level of the lips. I never had one fail, however I did use them for range use when the cracks first showed up and later retired them to the scrap box when they cracked to the extent I was not comfortable using them.
At the time I thought they were a good value and they were available. There are probably a couple around somewhere or another from those purchases.
Thanks for sharing...

FWIW Chuck Thanks for identifying the retailer as CDNN. I knew the packaging was familiar, but was not sure on the origin being CDNN for the KRD mags. I bought the two KRD 17 round kits along with some Mec-Gar Hi Power mags, plus one baby browning mags. Did not need them, but just wanted to have them for curiosities sake. BTW, the packaging is the same style as the CDNN supplied 13 round factory mags, marked made in Italy (which given the shape of the base plate button, I believe are actually made by Mec Gar).

Hello, Todd,
The placement of the witness holes and the number 13 appears to be just like a 13 Rd Mec-Gar too. Does the magazine in the photo have a Phosphate Finish, or is it just a dull blue?
BTW: Them calling it a "FN/Browning Factory Mag" is a heck of a stretch of the imagination and some creative advertising to say the least, especially when one considers that ALL Factory Supplied BHP Magazines equipped with Witness Holes, had the holes placed down the spine and not the side, and ALL Post-1993 Factory Supplied BHP Magazines also came equipped with the 'ejection spring' - all the Post-1993 Factory Supplied 10 Rd 9mm Mags, 13 Rd 9mm Mags and the .40 caliber Mags have the ejection spring and witness holes down the spine.

Bob, the "factory original" mags have a phosphate finish on them. I wonder since they are probably Mec-Gar mags and supplied late 1980 onward mags to FN they are calling them "factory original". BTW, great observation on the witness holes. I checked a bunch of my mags, and all FN mags, post late 1980s which were made by Mec-Gar had witness holes on the spine, while Mec-Gar branded had them on the side. I wonder if that was per FN request? Here is a link to the mousetrap spring patent patents.google.com/patent/US5353537A/en should anyone be interested.

That's a good question regarding who first requested the witness holes - I'd guess it was user requested and FN obliged.
Excluding my 20 Rd Mags and a few 13 Rd Mec-Gar Branded Mags, all my Hi-Power Mags are Factory Supplied w/new Pistols and/or Purchased Separately, so I can't really recall when witness holes first appeared on the Mec-Gar Branded BHP Mags. I just wish Mec-Gar would have put witness holes on the spine of the 20 Rounders indicating the 5th, 10th, 15th & 20th round loaded - or spent, depending on how you look at it.
Todd, do you or does anyone else know when witness holes first appeared on the Mec-Gar Branded 13 Rd BHP Magazine?

You are probably right about the Mec-Gar mags... I have bought them unmarked save ITALY from CDNN and some that were greenish parterization which may be MecGar or FEG. Todd, do you or does anyone else know when witness holes first appeared on the Mec-Gar Branded 13 Rd BHP Magazine? Just speculation on my part, but according to Vanerlinden, in the late 1980s FN started to outsource magazine production to Mec-Gar. Although not definitive, he states the early ones were marked only with "Made in Italy", does not mention witness holes, but also speculates that perahps only the body was Mec-Gar produced. Then in the early 1990s the markings changed to include the Nato/Luger etc marks, so at that time full OEM production by Mec-Gar for FN magazines. I would think around this time most of the witness holes started to appear. The earlier, pre late 1980s FN produced mags did not have witness holes. So first witness holes, best guess, would be late 1980s to early 1990s to correspond with Mec-Gar OEM production of mags for FN.

Thanks, Todd,
The late 80s sounds right regarding the witness holes, but it's been so long, I just can't remember...
