It is a German made FN Hi-Power. The serial number is 424xx with a “b” suffix I believe. It has the Wa140 german mark. Not sure much else I can mention that will help. It’s not a tangent sight model, just standard sights and standard everything. Wood grips and the works. I want to know when it was made during the war.

They started producing the b serial number in January of 1944 with approximately 10,000 to 12,000 guns being produced a month but there were very few guns made after May 1944. With that said yours is probably a March or April 1944 produced gun. Does yours have the brown bakelite grips or the wood grips? It should also have abbreviated serial numbers on the lower and the barrel with only the slide having the full serial number.

It’s wood grips. And yes, the slide is the only part that has the full serial number.

I've seen and have b serial number guns with both types of grips. Wood was getting in short supply and the bakelite was easier and faster to produce. By the time your gun was made they had already dropped the magazine disconnect and the fit and finish was getting pretty bad. I am not a fan of shooting any of the WaA140 guns as the plant was dealing with a lot of resistance and they carried out their resistance by playing with the heat treating of parts which made them prone to fail. They are still great collectors though.

I will be shooting it. The seller confirms it will fire safely. I’ll only be using non plus p or plus p plus ammo. But I don’t plan on shooting it much. It’s definitely going to be more of a collectors piece to me.
