First, welcome to our group... we hope you will join in the discussions, share knowledge and have fun.
It's hard to make much comment without having photos to review first. It sounds like an interesting gun, but that is about all anyone can say without seeing it.
You are welcome to post photos if you would like to.
Again welcome
Chuck

Welcome to the forum Snowman.
Putting a value on a gun with no more information than you are able to provide is very difficult. IMHO guns made for US import in 1959 are not rare guns even though there were only about 4k of them that year. Collectors would want to see a gun in the 95-100% condition for it to be what I consider a collector grade gun since they have no real history to them. You might go to gunbroker and search ended auctions for a gun similar to get an idea of market value. Without seeing it I'm going to call it a shooter grade gun and would put the value between $600-$1,000 but only if it has an excellent bore and original magazine with it.
Best of luck whatever you do.
Max

Welcome Snowman. As others have mentioned, we would need more information to be able to respond with any credible identifications and values. When you see it again, check if it is a Browning marked commercial import as p35 mentions, or is it perhaps a contract/surplus FN marked High Power. Big difference. Also, right around 1958 the Browning imports added Montreal to the roll mark. For Browning imports, from 1954 to 1958 or so, the roll mark was only St Louis. I paid a premium for an early 1958 St Louis only roll marked Hi Power, not pristine but in nice condition, because I wanted the early roll mark commercial Browning Hi Power in my collection. Condition plays a huge part of value and what collectors and enthusiasts are willing to pay. Original grips are important, and to a lesser extend the magazine, which should have an aluminum follower. After you see again, let us know. MY 1958 Hi Power, serial 80492. While the serial number dates it to 1958, some part production marks are as early as 1955.

Snowman, The photos are very difficult to tell condition as it appears much better than 85% IMHO from the photos posted. It is a US import 1959 model with what appears to be original grips. If the bore looks good I would put the value over $1,000 from what I can see but keep in mind, true value is whatever someone is willing to pay. Best regards, Max

Snowman can I ask what they offered? I will say that some LGSs make offers based on their customer base. My local LGS knows if he gets an old Colt 1911 that I pay premium for them. When he takes one in he calls me right away to tell me about it.

Snowman,
From the photos I've seen I would say their offer was reasonable and they probably plan to sell it for $1,000 or more.
Good luck whatever you do.
