I always visit my local LGS from time to time because you never know. I picked this up about three years ago for $390 plus tax. I would have thought they better understood the value but you never know what the people that own your local LGS concentrate on. If they get an old Colt 1911 they call me and want a fortune for it. I've picked up several nice older smiths that they just about gave away including a 4"617 I got years and years ago from them. It does not have an internal lock, the only smith I own with a Hillary hole is a 500 and only because they never made one without the hole.

The 2.5" S&W M66 was and is a superb revolver... drop dead reliable.

Chuck, I'm not just a model 66 fan having just about every version of it they ever made I also like S&W and Colt revolvers in all flavors. Here is a 66 that I purchased brand new in 1982 from Walmart if you can remember those days. I don't remember ever shooting this one. The box has a price tag of $229 on it.

I bought my first 'new-in-the-box' S&W revolver a M19-2 (didn't have any stainless guns back then except the M60) 5" at a BX on Guam for the munificent sum of $97.50! Wish I could buy some at that price now... What a shooter that gun was... Chuck The 2.5" S&W M66 was and is a superb revolver... drop dead reliable. Chuck sometimes when we think about the good old days we have to keep it in perspective. In 19xx a dollar went a lot further and was a lot harder to earn. I grabbed this out of the safe, it's an ounce of gold I purchased in June 1979 and left the price and date on it. Now that ounce of gold will cost you $1,800 to $2,000. It's still great to remember when a dollar was worth a dollar.

All true points... I bought gold around 1972-3 for $130 per Troy ounce (33g.) Late in 1979 it was over $800 per Troy ounce! I sure wish I had had more $130s to invest...
