Ran across pics today of what appears to be a 7T No. 2 MK I* Inglis but the slide does not appear to have been marked with the Inglis name. Left side of the slide shows "Browning F.N. 9MM H.P." quite clearly but to the right of this text the surface appears unmarked. Looks to be painted so perhaps the stamping is worn and covered but sure does not look like it.
Did it get missed? Replacement slide?
Nice looking piece but priced a bit high in my opinion.

Something doesn’t look right. The No.2 Mk1* roll stamp seems too perfect. Usually No.2 stamp would be a little off since it’s stamped on after the conversion I believe (removal of the tangent sight etc.). The font for the serial number on the slide doesn’t seem to match the one on the frame either. May be an expert will chime in. 🤔

I see your point regarding the No. 2 although from what I have read there was at one time a concerted effort to bring all pistols in stock up to the same level. I believe the markings in those cases would have been more consistent as they may have been processing in more of an assembly line fashion and likely would have had jigs or fixtures. That said, in the images I saw they also appeared to strike through the original MK I* marking and add the new NO.2 MK I* above it.
Looking a bit more closely, the font used for the slide serial is not quite the same as the font used for the frame serial. Since they used a pantograph originally when engraving the serials, I would expect all three to look very much the same. I wonder if the slide is a replacement. I wonder also if the successor to Inglis produced spare slides and marked them only with the Browning F.N. markings.

I'm not sure if this has a lot of bearing here, but FWIW some years ago I saw a Inglis HP frame that had been fitted with an India Arms slide. I suspect, but can't prove this was an ex British Army HP that was in service in India in 1947 when it left the British Empire for independence. At some point the Inglis slide was replaced with the IA slide... which does not have much in the way of markings on it... FWIW Chuck May be an expert will chime in. 🤔 One can hope I suppose.
