Hi everyone. New to the forum but not new to HP. I’m not familiar with Inglis HP so perhaps some one can help me out. Is the serial number on this Inglis No2 Mk 1* genuine or did someone wrote that in with an electro pencil? TIA.

Can you take the barrel out and post some pics of the proof marks on the barrel?
At first blush it appears someone at some point manually numbered the pistol to "force match' the barrel to the gun. This suggests the gun at some time was in a country the requires the barrel to be numbered to the gun... but that is just sort of a surmise... having more info (photos) of the barrel would be a big help.
FWIW

It’s not mine but I will ask the seller if he can furnish me with a more detailed pic of the barrel. Thank you.

I would wager the serial number and the other mark on the barrel were not stamped at the factory. Indeed it looks like someone "wrote that in with an electro-pencil". Perhaps it was a replacement barrel?
Pictures of proof marks might tell more about the origin of the barrel.
Cheers,
Tim

I’m not familiar with the Inglis Hi Power, where would the proof mark be and what would it look like? Could this possibly be a re-arsenal barrel and ‘force match’ as Chuck said in the posted above?

Well, mystery solved. After much Googling and thanks to a picture posted by member, teddydog, I was able to solve the mystery of the scratch marks on the barrel. It was indeed not the original barrel to the gun but a replacement done by Canadian Arsenals, Ltd. (much like RIA, SA and AA for US 1911). Supposedly, Canadian Arsenals was responsible for making parts and refurbishing CAF Inglis HP after the license for Inglis to manufacture HP had ended. The stylized Maple Leaf with “P” proof marks were used during that time when weapons came in for refurbishment/ re-arsenal. Again all this information was hodgepodged together from what I can find on the internet and surprisingly not a lot out there. So after Seeing the pic that teddydog posted of his Inglis, the curiosity got the best of me and I decided to rotate the pic that I have and voila, a stylized Maple Leaf with letter P underneath, albeit done with an electro-pen which was a common practice for the Canadian back in the day. I must say that did enjoy the sleuth work trying to figure it out and glad that I did. So below are three pic, one of my Inglis barrel (electro pencil), one of teddydog’s and one from the milsurp site.
