I posted this on the Gunboards a couple of weeks ago but didn't get a lot of definitive information, so I thought I would try here. There have been plenty of aftermarket 20 and 30 round magazines for the good old HP. Would like to get a couple of Mec-Gars myself (if I can find any reasonably priced ones since they were discontinued). But were there ever military procured and/or issued mags for the GP-35, FN Hi Power, BHP? I've seen some that are unmarked and appear to be parkerized and with high quality seamless mag bodies. I found a few anecdotal references to the Brits using some in Northern Ireland. My copy of Inglis Diamond is mute on the subject though I have also heard of Canadian 21-round magazines. This is the mag that prompted my question: It has a smooth "seamless" body, an over-insertion protection bump and heavy steel. Feels very solid. May have been refinished...cannot tell what the finish is. Maybe phosphate or blue over sandblasted meta. The baseplate is blued. No markings to be found anywhere on the body or base. Any info? Someone thought it might be from Venezuela. Thanks. Rob

The plastic follower suggests a fairly recent product. I don't think it is one of the Argentine magazines... at least it isn't like any I have... I'd guess something like a "Pro-Mag" or other after market product. That's where it came from. A few they have sold have had "Made in Italy" stickers on them but otherwise looked the same.
The lack of a fugly seam and/or spot welds speaks against Promag or USA in my opinion.

Recent Pro Mags are much better made than old ones. That's where it came from. A few they have sold have had "Made in Italy" stickers on them but otherwise looked the same. The lack of a fugly seam and/or spot welds speaks against Promag or USA in my opinion. Rob

Hello, The one(s) with Made in Italy stickers and roll-marked GP 35 Cal. 9MM are quality magazines and were more than likely made by Mec-Gar. They have a nice phosphate finish and are desirable to many for the roll-marking alone. simpsonltd.com/browning-hi-power-20-round-magazine-c48515/The mag you have is probably older than realized going by the old-style, round retaining stud on the floorplate (the easier produced stamped 'V' retaining lug has been in use for some time now.) Your mag appears refinished with some kind of paint/coating(?) instead of bluing or phosphate that's typically found on 'un-refinished' 20 Rd. HP Magazines. Note: All the 20s that I've seen, whether blued or phosphate finished, were shipped with blued baseplates. In the photo of the follower, the top edge of the magazine's spine appears ruff & uneven - unlike all the older Mec-Gar and suspected Mec-Gar Manufactured 20 Rd. mags I have or have examined. BTW: Your photos are so good that the top edge probably isn't as ruff looking in person as in the photo, but it's still worth noting when trying to identify the maker.
