Hello everyone....I'm new to the board. I'm looking for an original Browning Rug Case for my 1974 Hi Power and also would love to find an original manual.

Welcome to HPC. For the Browning rug, you would be looking for one of the black leatherette cases with BrowninG on the spine or side panel with brass zipper and red interior. Here is a link to a post on this forum on the BrowninG leatherette rugs. highpowercollectors.proboards.com/post/7926/threadFor a 1974 manual, you would be looking for style in the image below, which was used from about 1972 to 1975. Here is a link to some posts on Hi Power manuals and what years they relate to highpowercollectors.proboards.com/thread/1079/browning-hi-power-manuals-yearsKeep in mind, these are for commercial import Browning marked Hi Power pistols and not FN marked High Powers. For both the manual and the rug, best place to look is on eBay. Expect to pay around $80/$100 and perhaps more for the rug if it is good condition. Proper size for the Hi Power is about 10" wide. There is a nice one on EBay now, but a rathe high Buy Now price of $249, but he is also accepting offers. www.ebay.com/itm/185307857540?hash=item2b25358284:g:07QAAOSwI5piFEcfManual cover for a 1974 Hi Power

Thank you for the information. I had looked at those posts before joining the board and figured this may be the place to find them. For me the the HP was a bucket list item and I was more than happy to pick one up about a 2 weeks ago. Mine is marked a 74C Browning and made in Belgium. I've picked up a reproduction manual, but would like to have the original items that came with the pistol if I can find them. I have a 1911 and now on the hunt to complete my Browning bucket list, looking for a BAR.

I found and bought an original rug case yesterday and the best I could do on the manual was find an original copy of the previous edition to the one shown in the above post. If anyone needs the operation manual previous to the one show above, there is a poster on Gunbroker with 6 ot them available for $40 each. He also has more original Colt items than I have ever seen.

Glad you found an original period correct rug for your Hi Power. Beware of some of the GB sellers of manuals, some are suspect, representing items as New Old Stock when they are reproductions. There is a guy in TN who sells a lot of Colt manuals, cardboard boxes, labels etc as NOS, but much is suspect. Many of the Colt forums have posts and warnings about his inventory and how correct it is.
Post some images of you Hi Power and new rug when you get a chance.

Thanks ToddSig that's the guy...in Sparta, TN. He's shipping me the manual and said if I find it authentic then pay for it or send it back if I don't like it.
Side note, Sparta, TN is really pretty place and has a 1000 yard range. They often have the FieldCraft Survival training there. If you've not heard of FieldCraft...look them up. Guy that started it is very impressive....ex-11B, Ranger, SF, Delta, and CIA.
I'll post pic when I figure out how....which is sad for a system administrator to say, but every board is little different. I don't think my HP is a special one, just special to me.

I have only seen a few of the repro manuals and I have one as well, produced from the previous set of Hi Power manuals. I cant say this is always the case, but on most period correct vintage Hi Power manual, on the registration card you should have a printed revision date. If not, it could a suspected repro. If you have questions, at $40, you might wish to return and wait until a period one becomes available on GB or EBay. Whenever a seller has multiples of these, beware and proceed with caution. This first image is of the previous Hi Power manuals. Correct vintage manuals on left, with the repro on the right. Note the revisions dates on the left, missing on the repro manual Although not shown in the image, note the content changed from the 69 to the 72 registration cards. I dont have a reproduction +/-1974 manual, but do have a 1973 revision original manual. Note the revision date is printed on the registration card like the earlier versions above. See if the one you ordered has a similar revision date, if not suspect a repro. Hope this helps and does not confuse the issue. Todd

I did want to follow up and say I received the Browning rug case I ordered. The pistol fits in it and it'll zip closed, but maybe someone can tell me if it appears to be the correct one. It does have the Talon zipper and have the BrowninG on the spine.

Yup, that looks correct. They are a little tight, but it is correct. The next size down is too small, and the next size up is noticeably long. Here is mine, it too has a Talon zipper.

Sweet!....thank you for confirming! I believe my case measures approximately 9 1/2 x 7 inches. And the manual should be here in 2 days. The pictures I have seen of the manual does show revision dates.

ToddSig My rug has a black nylon zipper. Is this unusual? Hey Mr C, the black zipper rugs are not unusual. They were supplied after the brass zipper rugs. From what I have gathered in Browning catalogs, it looks like the black nylon zipper started around 1982, and were offered for a few years after that with new Hi Power purchases. Not sure when they stopped, but definitely at or before the MKIII grey plastics cases came about, which was around 1989/1990.
