I have acquired a made for the US sales, 1965 T series T138XXX and have most of the stamps figured out due to the knowledgeable folks in this forum. I have searched it through and I haven't found anything that explains what the marking is on the left side of the trigger guard is. I have seen numbers but mine looks like a weird sideways H with the lower legs cut off or a partial stamp. Any ideas? Thank you !

Welcome to HPC 82nd. Hi Powers over the years have a lot of mystery marks that we do not have information on. I think you are looking at one of these marks that we do not know what the represent or relate to. Perhaps parts marking, bin numbers, or they relate to some form of inspectors mark. We have some of that, and it sounds like you have been able to discover some of the proof marks, inspector marks and production date markings. Mine have both letters and numbers, and one with no mark. I have a few T series Hi Power, some Browning marked others surplus FN. I checked the left trigger guard for marks, and here is what I have (but, this still does not tell us what they mean). 1965 Browning T series marked with a G 1965 FN Surplus T, market with an 7 1967 Browning T, Tangent sight, S 1968 Browning T, 7 1968 Browning T, no mark 1972 FN Surplus T, R (it is sideways and looks like an R (see image below), might be similar to your mark I also checked a 1958 pre T, it is marked with a 1 So a lot of different trigger guard marks, but I dont have a strong opinion on what they represent or any details of what they relate to that might assist in futher identification. Perhaps someone else on the board has a better idea. I would like to know as well. I have never gotten a good explanation on some of these mystery marks.
