When the .45 ACP came into being, one of the original (factory) loads for it was 5.0/Bullseye/230 gr. FMJRN. The .357 Magnum was originally loaded with 15.0/2400/158 gr. LSWC (which should NOT be tried, NOW). The .30 U.S. Carbine was originally loaded with 14.0/H110/110 gr. FMJRN. Greater and lesser loads for all three rounds have been developed, and judged in terms of the originals. I know that the 9mm's origins/beginnings are non-U.S., so any "original loads" are likely beyond translation into contemporaneous components.
BUT... Did a load or group of loads not develop that became "standards" as the 9mm found broader acceptance in the U.S.? It seems that I remember 6.0/Unique/125 gr. LRN or JHP was touted by some (and probably is too hot, today) as a fine load. I know which loads I LIKE in 9mm, but I doubt I've cornered the market on particularly good ones.
