I'm looking to get more information on the Browning I inherited from my father. Dad was a career Marine, and this pistol was definitely loved like only a Marine can love a weapon. The s/n doesn't match up to the Browning website chart(T300313). This was the first pistol I fired as a kid and I'd love to know more about its history.

Welcome to HPC rotorzen. Nice looking T series Hi Power, and even nicer that it came from your Dad. It appears to be in very nice condition, your Dad must have taken good care of it. Here is a link to a Browning chart with serial number information. www.browning.com/support/date-your-firearm/hi-power-pistol.htmlThe only problem is that the chart ends T series Hi Powers in 1969 and with serial # T261000. That information is not complete, FN/Browning continued to use the T prefix into around 1972/73 or so. It confuses a lot of people and the exact date is not known when they stopped using the T prefix. In 1969 they also switch to the C series, with two digit date preceding the "C" then the rest of the serial number. They used both T and C serial numbers at the same time. I have a surplus T series (FN) with a T377390 with 1972 production marks. On the second image of the barrel on the barrel foot, you will see a sideways diamond pattern with a 9 within the lines. That is the production date of the barrel, which is from 1969 for the barrel, other parts could be later or earlier. I cant see all of the lines in the diamond patter, but if a full diamond, all sides it is from the 1st quarter of 1969, if right lower is open it is 2nd quarter of 1969, both right top and bottom open 3rd quarter and top left line, the rest open, 4th quarter of 1969. You can look for other part production marks on the hammer, trigger, back of slide stop and sometimes, if original on the magazine. Not always found, but worth looking for them. You have a nice package with the leatherette red lined rug with brass zipper, valuable on its own. Hope this helps. Todd
