Looking to buy an FM90 or FM95 Detective. New or used. Preferably good condition/low mileage. Willing to pay fair price, but hopefully not too crazy. I'm in KC area.

Looking to buy an FM90 or FM95 Detective. New or used. Preferably good condition/low mileage. Willing to pay fair price, but hopefully not too crazy. I'm in KC area. Welcome. I have an M90 Detective and M95 Dective as well as a M90 slide on an FN alloy frame. Great pistols for the Hi Power collector and enthusiast. The FM detective has gotten very popular over the past several years, as well as being hard to find. You can find full Detective pistols as well as slides to mate with a Hi Power or clone as well. Probably keeping an eye on Gunbroker would be you best bet at finding one. Right now, Gunbroker sales of FM M90 or M95 detective pistols is in the range of $1000-$1500. Good luck and hope you find one.

The Detective model has become very much in demand of late... and the prices reflect that demand. I have not seen one for sale in a good while. The conversion kits sold new for less than $200, but bring many times that price lately.
I have a couple of Detectives, one on a FM frame and another on a FEG frame. They carry well and are reliable.
A good alternative is the CZ75 compact handles and points very much like the detective FM.
FWIW

thanks Todd & Chuck. Sounds like I'm in for a long search and it could end up being too rich for my blood. I'll keep my eyes open and maybe I'll get lucky. - Phil

I suppose it's the same story for the detective slide kits as well? Short supply and high price?
Just trying to think of a "plan B" in case an FM 90/95 isn't likely to happen within my lifetime.

Hey Phil, as far as I know there are no good/immediate solutions in obtaining an FM Detective or slide. I think right now the slides are probably harder to get than the pistols. I would set up a watchlist for an FM Detective on Gunbroker. In looking at their completed sales, which I think only goes back about 60-90 days, there are 4 listings. www.gunbroker.com/item/905295771www.gunbroker.com/item/906846652www.gunbroker.com/item/906448852www.gunbroker.com/item/905483286 As you can see, they do come up, but you have to act fast and be ready to pay a premium. If you are looking to find a bargain, then you might keep an eye on local gun boards and gun dealers, but you dont see them that often, more of a luck situation. About 8 months ago I lucked into a Detective slide on eBay, buy now for $325. I never hit the Buy Now button so fast. I think it was just a listed a few minutes before I searched. Again, just lucky I was searching at the right time/minute. If you have the $$$ for custom work you can also check out MKIII in Las Vegas and Bob Cogan at APW in Alabama, and have an FN cut to detective length. Bob Cogan did one for me. Keep us posted on your hunt.

Detective slide with Novak sights just showed up on eBay. Starting price $395. Anyone who is interested should bid quickly or make an offer. (I have no interest in the selling of the slide) NOTE CONDITIONLink to bid [a href=" www.ebay.com/itm/294421076025?hash=item448cdd1839:g:ztUAAOSw9ylhUHGF"] www.ebay.com/itm/294421076025?hash=item448cdd1839:g:ztUAAOSw9ylhUHGF[/a] Listing states FM Hi Power Detective Slide in 9mm This slide started in just OK condition. The barrel lugs in the slide have wear and the slide needed to be refinished. I have replaced or upgraded the following: * Firing pin spring, extractor spring, and dual recoil springs from BH Spring Solutions * FM Detective "Semi Fit/Drop In" barrel from BH Spring Solutions * Novak Lo Mount Mega Dot Orange Night Sights ("Hackathorn Style") * Refinish in Cerakote The barrel to slide fit with the new barrel is better with the BH Spring Solutions barrel but it is not like a new slide. The slide drops onto my test frames (1979 Alloy Frame and 1993 Mark III Steel Frame) without any issues and cycles fine on both. It grouped reasonably well when I tested it with the new barrel. I have include a pic of the 5 shot group I did to test the new barrel. 2.5" group at 10 yds with 124 grain FMJ on the Alloy test frame. I was standing freehand without a rest. These Detective slides were built with play in the slide rails from the factory so that they will drop onto most Hi Power frames without any issues but, if you are not completely comfortable fitting the slide to your Hi Power frame, please take it to a professional gunsmith for help.

Thanks for the tip Toddsig. I was a little hesitant to pursue this one due to stated condition issues. It ended up selling for $590 Finding an FM 90/95 Hi-Power detective is proving to be a challenging prospect. A couple have sold on GB recently for north of $1K. Guess I'll have to re-evaluate how badly I really want one of these guys. I think I could go as high as $1K for one in good condition, but am having a hard time justifying paying more than that right now. We'll see how things go. patience, patience... Wonder if we could convince Springfield to release a 'detective' version of their new SA-35? -wheatshocker

Hey Phil, as I said, in finding a Detective or Detective slide you need to be patient. Keep looking and one will turn up. I agree, paying nearly $600 for a Detective slide with some issues does not make sense. Keep looking and you will find one, or maybe if we are lucky, Springfield Armory adds a Detective to with the new SA-35.

I know this is an older post, but is this of interest? Apologies for the quality of the pictures. I could try again, if there is any interest.
The gun appears largely brand new / lightly used. The artifacts around the stamps aren't as noticeable in person and appear (to me) as just part of manufacturing.
