Hello,
I have a Genuine FN HP Barrel that has the caliber marking on the L.H. side of the chamber. The R.H. side of the chamber has the common proof and inspector markings visible through the ejection port. My barrel was manufactured in the 3rd Quarter of 1957 and, the caliber marking on the L.H. side of the chamber is exactly as follows: CAL.9m/mP.
The barrel that I have came out of a Browning roll marked, '68 T Series, but this is a parts gun - so it's no help (except for the barrel's date code) in researching when the L.H. caliber markings started and what runs received them. BTW: I have only seen 3 or 4 of the odd marked barrels in person, and I cannot say whether they were original to the HP's that I saw them in - these were old guns that didn't belong to me, so who knows.
ToddSig has a Argentine Contract gun and it's caliber marking is on the L.H. side of the chamber.
So, in a quest to determine years of production and what HP's received these odd marked barrels - if any of you have a barrel that has the caliber marking on the L.H. side of the chamber, please tell us about it, including it's date code, inspector marks, etc. and what model HP it came from if it's correct to that gun.
Edited to add: The barrel I have isn't serial numbered, but some are, and the SN is visible through the ejection port on the ones I've seen that had it, so please state whether your odd marked barrel is or isn't serial numbered. Also, if you have one of the barrels in question, please state whether or not the caliber marking is like mine and the one in the photo that Todd posted below or something different.
Thanks for your participation,
Bob
