EDITORIAL - Keeping Your HP running.

With the demise of the High Power in 2017 I think it safe to say we were all a bit dismayed... we worried about the availability of parts and service and more. For my part I stocked up on high mortality parts from Browning at that time... Most of us were really concerned... Fortunately BHSS stepped in.

Shortly thereafter a British member posted about some tools British Army armorers had fabricated to make servicing a HP easier... I had been able to acquire schematic drawing of the main spring tool and passed on to our friends SLAV and Mark. They had the initiative to duplicate the tool and produce them for us. Happily they went on to offer other parts and accessories for the HP... all of high quality... To me at least that came as a major relief... They let us sleep better and made owning a HP a lot easier and more fun... For one I was very pleased.

A bit later BHSS started offering maintenance and repair service for the HP...

With all the nice parts and gadgets BHSS offers us, I would ask to be pardoned if I offer one more suggestion for an item that would be most welcome to HP owners... That thing is a thumb safety similar to the one made by FEG in it's later days. I have a couple of them and thew work very well indeed. They are easier to use than the originals made by FN and better than the 'Improved' safeties made by FN. It was simply the best. So SLAV/Mark... Can you offer us the FEG thumb safety? You would do us all a service if you can...

What do you guys think? Is the thumb safety something you want to see?

Oh, so you're the guy, Chuck!

I've spent more $$$ with BHSS than I ever thought possible on pistol upgrades... no complaints and zero regret with much happiness! I have those tools and will probably acquire anything they come up with in the future.

My project today was to change out the springs and pins on the new to me 1952 Custom FN High Power. My BHSS spring and pin order arrived yesterday.

Used many of the BHSS tools, including the main spring tool. In addition to cleaning, changing the recoil spring, trigger spring, main spring and firing pin spring, I also darkened the grips to an ebony and installed a Garthwaite trigger which came out of another project. Now just need time to get to the range, See image below.

That said, have to agree with Chuck, an FEG style thumb safety or perhaps a BHSS designed safety for the Hi Power would be interest to many. Not many good choices out there when looking to improve/customize the Hi Power thumb safety. I know Mark and Slav have been teasing new products in the brochures and newsletter, so perhaps a safety is one of them.

Here's my FEG counterfeit FN that I bought a couple of years ago. The standard FEG P9 safety did not have a strong enough detent (actually switched itself to the "fire" position a couple of times in the holster), so I located an FN MKIII ambidextrous safety at a good price and "bobbed" the right side to convert it to a single-sided safety. Dropped right in, worked great, passed all of the safety test, and the finish exactly matched the Israeli-applied parkerizing.



I prefer the "authentic" look of the FN part myself.

Nice example Tepelle. How is it marked? Does it have both the counterfeit FN proof marks as well as the FEG/Hungarian?
