I carried S&W pistols first revolvers then semi autos throughout my LE career. Oops the Ruger is there because there was not enough room for another Model 66 Others were also carried in plain clothes (like a HP) but Smith’s were my favorites.

I was in charge of the firearms program and favoredvSmith &Wesson revolvers shooting them in police competition, you did not see a Colt on the line in those days. As LE moved closer to accepting the semi auto pistol I had already convinced the chief to approve the Smith 39 and 59 pistols and we ordered a bunch through the city but at the officers expense. As time went on I was able to issue 659’s and later 3906/and 5906 pistols, shortly before my retirement we adopted Glock 22 and 23 pistols and the day of S&W was over at our dept.

That's a nice accumulation of revolvers ibemikey. I was issued a S&W Model 10, then a 64, but actually carried a 66 after I got out of the academy. When the L-frames were introduced, I went to a 586, then 686. Then SIGs and Glocks after semi-autos were approved. Other than second weapons, I did not carry S&W again until years later, a S&W CQB .45. I don't have many S&Ws, but did manage to hang onto a few I carried while in LE.

The pre lock S&W revolvers were excellent basically being hand made revolvers. They are still very viable sidearms more than a hundred years after the basic design was introduce...

Great news, I started my career with a Model 19 4” using it as a duty weapon and as a target pistol for PPC matches in off time. That old 19 was replaced through the years by other Smiths but i longed for another 19, one without the current shortcuts and safety crap. On my birthday last month my buddy presented me with a 19 in what I believe is unfixed condition, a pinned and recessed 19-2 with all target features. I have rubbed it with a soft cloth and await my trip to Texas next month to hunt feral hogs and intend to shoot the beans out of the 19 for two months while there.

Shooting that M19 should be a lot of fun... they are getting harder and harder to find these days... The 19 was certainly the ultimate duty revolver...
