I've been considering a different (lighter) carry gun.
While my preference is a full size 1911 or P-35, age and MILEAGE have taken a toll; degenerative arthritis, blown and repaired Rotators, re-built thumb, herniated Lumbar and Cervical VB, bad hip/knees, etc. have made it increasingly difficult to carry my preferred sidearm(s). (And thank you NO, I won't carry a striker fired/plastic gun if given the choice)
While 1/2 a pound doesn't sound like much, it sure as hell FEELS like a lot at the end of a 10 hr.+ day.
I have never owned a DW 1911, but have shot a couple. They seemed well made firearms, using quality parts.
Decided to try a "Vigil"- alloy frame, 5" gun in 9mm.
Picked it up at my FFL a couple weeks back, did "trigger job" (True Radius jig on sear, "de-tensioned" sear/leaf spring, installed 10# RS and 21# MS- and will mention- the parts involved all appeared to be Bar Stock, not MIM), short trigger, FBFPS and tweaked the thumb safety- which was too stiff "On/Off".
End result is a 3.25# trigger, which is about a pound heavier than my range guns.
Went to the range for dial in and function test.
I took my range ammo (124 gr. Zero JHP's), Speer 124 gr. GD's, Winchester "Ranger" 124 gr. +P and 124 gr. HST +P.
After setting (drifting) rear sight and gaining familiarity with the enormously wide, Tritium FS (I shoot .090" wide FO's 95% of the time), I shot for group with my range ammo and the HST- which was the first carry ammo out of the bag.
Frankly I was amazed, if not shocked.
First the gun shot to the sights- POA/POI were spot on for elevation.
Second- the groups were much tighter than I had hoped for.
Forgot to add; the targets pictured were shot at 25 yds.- benched.
My verdict is; it's a keeper.
I shall not mess with it further.
As an alloy frame gun it will be carried a lot and shot seldom.
I can easily recommend DW 1911's, if this one is any indication of their quality and attention to detail.
