Hello,
Have any of you guys used Winchester's WIN*1911 45 Automatic Ammunition?
Part No. X45P is their 230-gr. JHP Load - and Part No. X45T is their 230-gr. FMJ (Truncated/Flat-Point Bullet) Load.
Both of the above mentioned loads have Nickel-Plated Bullets and I'm mainly wondering how anyone that's used this ammo cleaned the fouling from the bore that was left behind from the Nickel-Plated Bullets.
FWIW: Neither of these loads aren't too expensive and, since Winchester specifically designed these loads & bullets for our beloved 1911 Pattern Pistols, a guy probably wouldn't go wrong by buying a case or two of this ammunition.
Here's the link: winchester.com/Products/handgun-ammunition/Performance/win1911/Pages/default.aspx
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,
I have not used this ammo my self, but I have heard reports of reliability problems the the TC bullet...
Maybe someone has used it... there are also reports of problems with the TC ammo in 9x19mm
FWIW

Thanks for the reply, Chuck, it's good hearin' from you.
That's too bad about the reported feeding problems with the 230-gr. TC Bullet - I was hoping for some positive reviews because, I really like the idea of a big, flat-point bullet.
I'd still like to know if the fouling from a Nickel-Plated Bullet is (or isn't) hard to remove, if anyone has dealt with it.

Nickle fouling is an issue I have never seen addressed... it may be a non issue because nickle is considerably harder than copper alloy... I don't know I have ever heard the issue discussed. A combination I like in .45acp is the 200gr cast Hensley & Gibbs #61 type 200gr bullet (still commonly available and cuts a clean hole so it presents a lot of surface when it hits.. This can be loaded to around 1,000 fps using Alliant powder and older data (Lyman #45 reloading manual is a good start.) I have used that load on a LOT of stuff and it even worked well on large armadillo (which can be quite tough.) Years ago before the arrival of improved JHP bullets I used to carry that load. My load was Unique 7.2 for a typical velocity 1040fps. This is of course very close to a maximum load and should be worked up carefully because of variations in components. It does however deliver quite a wallop and even with today's modern loads this stands up pretty well. It also didn't seem to over penetrate for the most part... a plus today. You have posed a really interesting question about nickle plated bullets... it also makes me wonder if the lands in the barrel cut through the plating when fired? I wish I knew more...
