This is my 1945 production A-prefix FN1922. This thing is a classic Browning blowback design and the blueing on it is gorgeous. It's not the best trigger in the world but it's a nice piece of history and an elegant design.
The FN1922 was pressed into belgian army service in 1944 and onwards untill High Power production was back up and running.
It was the standard sidearm for the belgian gendarmerie (together with the High Power) and a lot of municipal police forces up untill the 70's.

The FN 1922 was my first FN pistol, and through researching it 10+ years ago I became interested in the HP.....and down the rabbit hole I went. I picked up the FN 1922 around 10 years ago from a private sale for $150. Had no real interest, but the price was too good to pass up. While woodyb has a nice historic example with the A priefix, mine is nothing special, a late production model, serial 175236, so around 1973. The story I got when puchased is it belonged to a member of the State Dept who was stationed in Africa, and was given as protection to the official by a fellow European diplomat (possibly Dutch). The State Dept official was now back in the US and wanted to get rid of the 1922, and I obliged.

Here you have a picture of the FN1922 in action by the Rijkswacht (the dutch/flemish name for the Gendarmerie).
They used some reactive point shoot techniques at close range in the '70 s. Those techniques have been abandoned, but the mustaches that are associatied with the gendarmerie have made a comeback

Blonde officer reminds me of Jim Phelps from the old Mission Impossible TV series. Great image woodyb .
