If your P27 cleans up like I think it will you got a good deal indeed.
I would price that revolver (after cleaning up) at around $2k.
You have a great catch there... the S&W 357 Magnum (the S&W name for that revolver) is a magnificent 357 revolver and is the lineal descendant or the original pre WWII 357 magnum as introduced in 1935.
FWIW

Thanks I’m not as familiar with the earlier S&W revolvers as I am with Colt, I spent about 45 minutes in books looking it up since I’m more used to the model 10’s which I’ve had for years. I asked the owner what he wanted and he said $1000. After finding the gun In the books I told him ok.

After finding the gun In the books I told him ok. Very smart indeed. Same sort of thing happened to me a few months ago with a Winchester pre war Model 70. Just too good of a deal to pass up. So glad I did, even though I am not interested in rifles. If I decided to sell it, I will make money, as you will too. It is one of those opportunities that you would always regret if you passed. Congratulations on a great classic S&W for a great price.

Serial # S945XX 5 screw
The grips are original with serial number on inner surface. Blueing solid with no corrosion under the grips. Grips show little to no wear as does the bore. Doesn’t have the normal powder on the front of the cylinder. He told me he had it since his father passed in 2000. But had never shot it since he didn’t have any .357 mag ammo. This thing is like a unicorn.

That's a very nice revolver. I think you did well. It's an early 1953 production, correct?

That’s what I was told on one of the S&W forums.

I’m really kicking myself now even if it was about six years ago (sold for $1200.00) for about what old Pythons were going for at the time. Had the box and the only difference it had the S&W version of the Tyler Tgrip on it. Bought it from a friend so he could buy a S&W Registered Magnum but now he’s gone along with the S&W’s. Beautiful buy there, congratulations
