The other day I took my FEG Counterfeit FN Hi Power out of the safe with the intentions of giving it a quick wipe-down. I noticed my trigger pull scale, one of those Wheeler jobbies with the yellow plastic slider, hanging from its hook on the reloading bench, and thought, what the heck, I'll see what this trigger weight is. So I checked that it was clear, racked the slide to cock the hammer, hooked the scale on to the trigger, and gave it a pull. 3-1/2 pounds!
I say what? And I do it again. 3-1/2 pounds!
Again, but with the trigger scale hooked way down near the tip of the trigger. 3 pounds.
Again, but with the trigger scale hooked up high on the trigger near the frame. 4 pounds.
This pistol is one that I purchased from Cole's Distributing in Scottsville, KY, and he got it in a shipment of Israeli surplus. As it was marked as an FN, the Izzys may have thought it was an FN, and however it fell into their hands (Good story, I bet!) they re-parkerized it and installed a really dilapidated set of Pachmayer grips. As received, the mag disconnect was non-operational, as it was stuck back inside it's tunnel in the trigger. I removed the pin and dug it out and found that the spring appeared to be rusted in two and the tunnel was full of what appeared to be very fine sand. So I cleaned the tunnel out with an oil-soaked pipe cleaner and put it back together leaving out the spring and plunger.
I continued to detail strip it and replaced the extractor spring and recoil spring, and replaced the firing pin, which was badly rust pitted, with a new replacement firing pin and spring. I also put on a set of FN black plastic military style grips. Later on I replaced the early safety with a more modern MKII/MKIII safety with the big lever, which I converted to a single sided safety. Here's what it looks like now:
I got out my old early MKIII, one with the forged frame and the mag disconnect still in place, and it read 12 pounds with a magazine inserted.
Essentially the only real difference is that the FEG model has had the mag disconnect removed.
The difference between the trigger pulls, both in weight and tactile feedback, is amazing!
