We need more members to post images of their Hi Powers.
From the Brad Pitt movie, Se7en, the famous line "What's In the Box?"
A few years ago I found an excellent condition Browning Hi Power presentation box from the mid 1950's to early 1960's. These paper covered cardboard boxes with the BrowninG logo were used between about 1954 and 1962, and the blued Hi Powers were taken from the red small cardboard boxes and placed into these black with red interior presentation boxes.
Since getting the box I have wanted the perfect Hi Power for it. I have several T series the earliest from 1965, but no pre T Browning Hi Powers were in my collection (so I needed a pre T anyway) and I wanted a period appropriate Hi Power for the box. I wanted a nice condition, Browning Pre T, St Louis only roll mark (no Montreal mark), internal extractor and thumb print depression on the slide. I had to wait a while, but I finally scored one. Of course paid more than I wanted, but I was tired of waiting, and my box kept calling for a Hi Power.
The new to me Hi Power has a serial number from very early 1958, at 80492 (first Browning imports in 1954 started with a serial number of around 70,000). The Browning site states 1958 Hi Powers started with a serial number of 80,000, and mentions before 1958 records of serial numbers record keeping was less than accurate. The barrel (on left side opposite of the ejection port), slide and frame having matching serial numbers, and the controller of the proof mark is on the barrel, frame and slide as well, *N for Henri Florkin. The interesting part is most parts are production marked from 1955. I have reached out to the Browning historian, and hope to get more info.
