I have two FEG Hi Powers that I often carry for my EDC weapon - particularly the Counterfeit FN pistol imported from Israel. Both have the classic humped feed ramp. On the recommendation of the late Steve Camp I always loaded them with the Federal Classic C9BP ammo, which I found to be 100% reliable as well as inexpensive (so long as I used Mec-Gar 13-round magazines). I have a supply on hand, as I would, every few months, buy one or two 50-round boxes every time I had a few bucks to spare. Just in case it became unavailable, you know?
Well, the time has come. Not being able to find it at any of the big online ammo discounters, I just checked Federal's web site and found it to be discontinued.
Has anyone found an alternate make and and model ammo that works with the humped feed ramp?

You might try Summit Gun Broker ( http://www.summitgunbroker.com) I believe mark still has some 9BP and 9BPLE in stock... stock up whilst you can... A little polishing of the feed ramp have made any HP I have so treated work fine with HP ammo... I like 9BP and 9BPLE a lot... both use the same bullet, 9BPLE is just a +P load. You also might try Remington Golden Saber ammo, which has always worked well in my HPs... Tried SGB. This is what I found:

All they showed was some American Eagle 9mm FMJ.
I may try a box of the Remington Golden Saber. I'll have to look through my Steve Camp Hi Power book. I believe that he did mention another brand that he had good luck with.

Any round ogive JHP should feed fine. I also used 124 gr. Nyclads for a long time 'til they also disappeared. Try a box of GoldDots.
Honestly... not a single one of my 8 HPs has ever failed to feed any JHP, and I have examples from 1943 to late MkIIIs. |
