Here is a close up of the FEG thumb safety on my alloy frame HP along with the C&S rowel hammer...
This sis a top view, unfortunately the photo is not nearly as clear as the first one...
I like the FEG version better than the C&S, which of course is simply my opinion... but to me the FEG safety is easier to use and doesn't the fairly sharp edge you get on the C&S... YMMV.
Here is a FEG frame with a C&S thumb safety and rowel hammer and a FM Detective model short slide. This is a good example of a shooter grade slide/frame that was being upgraded. I have since had the whole thing Cera-Coated and it now looks new. I have also fitted the gun with extra thin Navridex Teak grips.
Anyway, it is worth noting after market modifications on HPs (or for that matter any gun) are simply a matter of taste and budget. People install what they think will work best for them or what they can afford... I have done both over the years...
As an aside, there is nothing wrong with a FEG HP... if you get a good one you have a pistol that will shoot very well and accurately... I bought this FEG around 1990 at the big Dallas Market Hall gun show... It has been an excellent shooter for me for a very long time... It has some finish wear over the years, but I am not of a mind to refinish it... the FEG blue finish was as good as any around...

I have the same safety lever on one of my Hi Powers. I'd recognize the shape and plum colored finish anywhere. I'm a little surprised they mated it with what looks like the original hammer. I would love to have that gun and make it a project to change the sights, hammer and refinish. If it shoots and ejects well, you've got a nice gun. Enjoy!
