I'm reading all this with interest. I have a beautiful M90 that I thought I would hold on to forever but then Mother Nature struck and now I'm looking at significant hail damage on two vehicles. I may have to start keeping an eye on market prices. I think it's going to be hard to part with, though. What a great little gun. I qualified for my CHL with it; feels great in the hand, stone reliable and looks the bomb.

When you get a chance, post some images of your M90.

Thanks, and here you go. The first pics are with the original grips. I've since tried two other grips and am going with the darker (and less attractive, IMHO) grips as they are quite a bit thinner.

Very nice and together with the original box. Looks to be in excellent condition. I would have a real hard time selling. Thanks for posting.

Have you sold your FM Detective yet or are you still looking for a buyer?
I'm interested in acquiring one of these if available.
Thanks, -Phil

Just spotted this advertisement from January 1992 on FM Detective's for sale. $239.95 for the detective, and $249.95 for the full sized FM Hi Power.

^^I can't remember what I paid for my first Hi-Power in 1983, but it was much closer to $469.50 than $249.95.

If one is looking for a Detective HP and can't find the Argentine version the CZ=75C (compact) is a pretty good substitute. I'm happy to have two Detectives... one the full blown Argentine with spare Detective slide/barrel assembly, the other being one of the conversion kits offered in the late 1990s, imported IIRC by Century Arms. The second is on a FEG frame I got in the early 2000s that was something of a lemon. It had a trigger pin that would walk which was really annoying. Unlike my other FEG it has a really terrible trigger too. The finish was indifferent at best unlike my first FEG which had a really nice polished blue that was every bit as good any HP finish.. Anyway, I consigned the FEG slide assembly to the HP parts box and decided it would become a Detective model. First, I had to fix the walking trigger pin... something a Dallas area gun smith of some renown could not do... I however had read something on the internet about how to fix the problem... I simply bent the trigger pin a VERY small amount ( My HP parts collection has several trigger pins so the risk was minor.) Anyway I found the tiny amount of bend solved the walking problem (being careful to keep in mind the end of the trigger pin that goes on the right side is thinner than the left end.) Here is a pic of the FEG/Detective after initial work on it... you can see the cosmetics are not great... After looking at the finished product the finish bothered me a lot... so I had it CeraCoated in the gray psudo-parkerized look. It now looks a lot better... I'm very pleased with the result, though I have no idea what I need two Detectives for... FWIW Chuck

I'd be glad to take one of them off your hands if you ever feel the need to trim your collection. -Phil

I was surprised to see the FM Detective actually sold at $1499.00... Seems like mine were a good buy... I should have bought some when they were $249... FWIW Chuck

Welcomw to HPC otis45. When you get a chance please post some images of your Detective and the slide. Do you have the slide mounted on a frame? As you have noticed, prices for the FM Detective have gotten a little intense over the past year or two. The kit slides alonge can sell for upwards of $600, and hard to find a complete Detective now for under $1000. There were actually three versions of the Detective that I am aware of, first and most in demand is the FM M90, classic style Hi Power safety, no billboard slide roll marks, the FM M95 which is more in line the FN MKII with the FN ambi safety, but it has the large Detective roll mark on the slide, and the FM M02which had a factory installed SFS system. From what I understand the M02 was not imported into the US but a few examples occasionally show up. When originally offered in the 1990s and early 2000s, they were rather inexpensive, now they are almost considered collector pistols for many Hi Power enthusiasts. Many owners will customize their Detectives, I have three, two M90s and one M95. The M95 has been finished, Novak sights, BHSS trigger, and Navidrex black micarta grips. The M90, also cerakoted, Novak sights, Cylinder and Slide hammer, trigger and safety and Hogue grips. The slide, is mounted on a 1975 FN alloy frame for carry, with original sights, Garthwaite trigger and hammer and C&S safety with custom grips. The Detective slide with alloy frame is a popular combination for carry. Post some images so we can see what you have (M90 or M95) and let us know any additional questions. Some images, an old advertisement for FM M90 and M90 Detective Two recent sales on Gunbroker, the $1050 sale was a bargain, had original box and appears to be in great original condition. The custom was very nice Cylinder & Slide custom Detective, and given the amount of custom work, it was a good price. Most times full Detectives are selling between $1000 and $1500. My three Detectives, top the slide on the 75 FN Allowy frame, middle the M90, and the right the M95 (note the large roll mark on the slide)

I wonder if the introduction of the Girsan 'Detective' models will help to drive down the price of these old FN Detectives and slide kits that will pop up in the wild going forward?
I'm crossing my fingers.

I should have noted the frame on the '1C' is marked 215RPxxxxx - which makes it a military model frame from '78?
