I thought I would have myself a wild time, and disassemble and clean all of my 1911 magazines. (If you get a report that the police were called to my house, you'll know things went too far.) Anyone have any tips? Is it all about Hoppe's No. 9, or could I go with isopropyl alcohol (for the mags, not for me)? Do you have a dedicated magazine cleaning brush? (I've got a drawer full of strange, little brushes my dentist has given me over the years, and I think I'm finally going to get to use them.) Do you think 1911 magazines ought to be treated in any special way, or will a firm talking-to be enough? Your favorite cleaning method could easily become my favorite cleaning method — since I am easily influenced by social media — so please chime in. Thanks.

I don't use any oil or oil based materials on my magazines, rather I keep them dry and just brush off any 'junk' that tries to accumulate on them. If I get oil from the gun on them I clean them in acetone which gets oil off easily and cleans very well. I just disassemble the mags and then use a dry brush to brush them out, followed by a paper towel folded up to go into the tube. Then clean the follower and reassemble.....done!!!
