Soon Ill be getting another High Power the serial number is 245PT56424 located on the front of the grip and on the right side frame and slide and chamber is GV B424 86. The gun is a 1986 model. It will be my carry piece.
The GV serial is strange to me. Anyone know what it is. I'll post pictures when I get it.

With the GV serial number, sounds like a lightweight. Looking forward to images, and congratulations.

Pictures of any proof marks will be very helpful. One question in the meantime, is does it have an FN or a Browning roll mark on the slide?

It has the FN roll marks. I don't have it yet.

That's the first dot connected. The proof marks should give us the rest of the dots and then we'll have a full picture (we hope).

Looks pretty good. Those lightweights make a great base for a custom High Power.

Looks nice. What are you plans for it?

It needs some work, a new trigger spring, removal of the mag safety and ambidextrous safeties and several springs replaced. A CeraKote refinish and after I get that done, it will be one of my carry guns.

Very cool!
I picked one up from RGUNS here near Chicago. My inventory number is GVB 778 84 and located in front of the trigger on both the slide and frame. The FN serial number (245PZ*****) appears on the barrel/ejection port and just below on the slide as well as on the front strap. The slide lacks "Browning's Patent Depose'" below "Fabrique National Herstal Belgique". Looks like wear similar to yours. I wish there was better documentation on the alloy frames.
I had it mated to an FM Detective slide which required shortening the trigger lever for reliable trigger reset. I also added an SFS kit, C&S Wide Trigger and changed out all the springs. It works great and makes an excellent daily carry gun for me.
Just today I called around and am considering sending the original slide off to have it and the barrel shortened to Detective length, better sights, dream gun etc. I have a spare slide of the same vintage I could use instead. Not sure what I want to do yet.
Anyway, mine shoots very well with both slides. It has become my favorite BHP. I want another one so I can send it out for full rehab while I carry this one.
Enjoy!

I bought one a few years ago... it was in good condition, but the finish had flaws and it had the typical for the breed heavy wear at the front of the frame forward of the trigger guard... After removing the magazine interlock I had it Cera-Coated and it looked good indeed... I have been really pleased with it. Here is my light weight after it was re-finished... Right side view I'd include a 'before' photo, but the before was lost when Photobucket tried to extort money from all of us. FWIW Chuck
